A timely comment. Right yesterday, in my lecture on Pollution in the module “Fundamentals of Climate Change and Planetary Health” at LSHTM I specifically talked about nitrogen pollution and N2O in particular. The nitrogen flow has crossed the planetary boundary of biogeochemical flows well into the high risk zone of ecosystems collapse. #nitrogen #n2o #pollution #climatechange #environment
Following the launch of a deeply concerning Global N2O Assessment on the alarming increase in emissions from the ‘forgotten greenhouse gas,’ Nitrous Oxide, what should be done to avert a global catastrophe? EIA Climate Campaigner, Tom Nickson, was a panellist yesterday at the 36th Meeting of Parties to the Montreal Protocol in Bangkok, Thailand, discussing the issue. Concerns are growing among researchers that efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions aren’t moving fast enough to prevent the destructive effects of heat waves, storms and floods made worse by climate change. Some scientists are now testing approaches once considered taboo, using taxpayer funds and private investments. Last year, the White House issued preliminary guidelines for some types of research into geoengineering, a set of strategies to manipulate the environment to partially offset the impact of climate change. This comparative analysis of the four RCP scenarios outlines the varying greenhouse gas emissions trajectories and their projected impacts on climate outcomes. It provides a clear view of how different pathways, from low-emission (RCP2.6) to high-emission (RCP8.5), influence future climate scenarios. For a more detailed insight into the different scenarios, refer to the full article in our previous post. #ClimateChange #RCPScenarios #Sustainability #ClimateInsights #ClimateAction

An important contribution to the debate over the proper role of Carbon Removal in climate policy, and how to govern it.
"Countries need to provide clarity on the role of carbon dioxide removal in their climate pledges". Our new paper out yesterday, led by Will Lamb, in 'Environmental Research Letters' https://lnkd.in/dXY385tc (typeset version out soon)
