Today, on World AIDS Day, we take a moment to honor those we’ve lost, celebrate the strength of those living with HIV, and recommit to the fight against stigma and discrimination. This year’s theme, “Take the rights path: My health, my right!”, reminds us that human rights are at the core of ending AIDS. Tackling inequalities and ensuring everyone has access to quality healthcare are essential steps toward progress. (https://lnkd.in/gv-NDGPu) If you consider yourself passionate about creating inclusive spaces, then you’ll agree that education and empathy are powerful tools for change. It’s on all of us to ensure our workplaces, communities, and networks are not only safe and supportive but also grounded in respect. Today and every day, I encourage all of us to take action—whether by learning more about the realities of living with HIV, supporting an HIV/AIDS organization, or simply standing as an ally. Small acts of solidarity can make a big difference. If you’re in the Chicagoland area and looking to contribute, I recommend supporting the incredible work of the AIDS Foundation of Chicago (https://lnkd.in/gQx_RJpF) or Chicago House (https://lnkd.in/gpf4r8pz). Both organizations are making a tangible impact by providing advocacy, prevention, housing, and support services to those who need it most. Let’s work together for a future where no one is left behind—where stigma and inequity are replaced with compassion and dignity for all. #WorldAIDSDay #TakeTheRightsPath #Allyship #Inclusion

Last week, we asked our Hub members how they engage in peer support and leadership. So, what exactly does it mean to be a peer leader? In the field of HIV, a ‘peer’ is an individual living with HIV whom other community members may be able to relate to on the basis of their shared experiences. Peer is just one of many terms used to represent this pivotal role. Peers can have a great deal of influence on the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of their fellow community members, making peer support an important part in capacity-building and holistic HIV care. Participating in peer support and leadership is a personal choice that comes with many different options for involvement. There are social media groups, women’s clubs, regular workshops and peer-led activities, retreats, and much more available to be involved in peer support! Learn more about peer support and existing resources in our Instagram post: https://lnkd.in/gMn832pB And let us know - how do you engage in peer support?

December 1 is Red Scarf Day, a day to reflect on the impact of HIV/AIDS and unite in support of those affected. This date aligns with World AIDS Day, established in 1988 as the first global health day, to raise awareness, combat stigma, and remember the millions who have been lost to the epidemic. The red scarf symbolizes care, solidarity, and the ongoing fight against HIV/AIDS. This movement has roots in the 1980s, a time when fear and misinformation surrounded the disease, leading to stigma and discrimination. Activists and organizations fought tirelessly for recognition, treatment, and human rights, paving the way for the advancements we see today. Yet, the work is far from over. Globally, over 38 million people are living with HIV, and marginalized communities, including 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, continue to face disproportionate impacts. Join the call to end stigma and ensure access to education, testing, and care for everyone. Let’s honor the history of resilience and advocacy that brought us here and commit to a future of inclusivity and health equity. Wear your red scarf with pride and share its meaning with others—because awareness starts with conversation, and progress starts with us. #RedScarfDay #WorldAIDSDay #EndTheStigma #HIVAwareness #StratfordPerthPride

Winnie Byanyima, as the Executive Director of UNAIDS, champions a people-centered and women-centered approach to tackling HIV epidemic Women make up 57% of adults with HIV. Young women aged 15-24 are more likely to be infected than young men, and HIV increases the risk of cervical cancer in women.Inaccessibility to education, economic vulnerability, and societal roles hinder prevention efforts for women. A women-centered approach addresses these factors effectively.Women and girls often bear the burden of care for those living with HIV/AIDS, increasing their economic and social vulnerabilities. Women frequently lack access to treatment and are underrepresented in advocacy initiatives, highlighting the need for inclusive advocacy. Byanyima builds global and African coalitions on social justice, essential for tackling HIV-related discrimination. Byanyima’s work emphasizes a holistic approach to HIV/AIDS, ensuring that women’s needs and challenges are addressed in prevention, treatment, and advocacy efforts. It is crucial that global health initiatives are contextualized. Communities and grassroots organizations must be involved to ensure that initiatives are sustainable and meet the needs of the people they aim to serve. At Jasper, we celebrate Winnie Byanyima’s remarkable leadership in advancing social justice and women’s health. Her dedication inspires us to continue advocating for prevention, treatment, and equitable care while creating initiatives that support women’s needs.#socialjustice #womenempowerment #unaids

Empowering Youth with Aflateen: Preventing HIV in Honduras As CEO of Aflatoun International, I am proud to share the impactful work being done around the world by Aflatoun partners, today I would like to highlight important work ongoing in Honduras. Through the Young Impact Leaders for Central America project, the National HIV/AIDS Forum Association (FOROSIDA) is implementing the Aflatoun methodology to empower young people with essential life skills and knowledge on sexual and reproductive health. Below some impressions from the activities in different youth centers earlier this week. The Young Impact Leaders Project is an initiative, originally funded with the support of The Howard G. Buffett Foundation. Launched in partnership with Glasswing International and executed by #FOROSIDA, this program aims to create hope and improve community roots and pride by harnessing the power of the region's youth to achieve positive change in their own communities. The role of Aflatoun partner Glasswing in Honduras is vital to making these sessions possible, ensuring that young people are equipped with the knowledge and skills to prevent HIV and lead healthy, empowered lives. Together, we are creating lasting change and brighter futures for youth worldwide. #SDG3 #SDG4 #SDG5 #SDG8 #SDG13 #LifeSkills #FinancialEducation #YouthEmpowerment #HIVPrevention
