Every milestone we achieve is a step towards advancing care globally. 2024 was a year of significant growth for LSM-Med! 🌏 We expanded our reach to the Asia-Pacific, South America, and Northern Africa, ensuring that surgeons in these regions have access to cutting-edge solutions that enhance patient care. 🩺 Our commitment to medical education remained strong, with impactful Surgeon2Surgeon trainings and cadaver labs offering opportunities for peer-to-peer learning. ❤️ In partnership with NGOs and charitable organisations, we made care more accessible and strengthenied our commitment to the communities we serve—because innovation in healtchcar should benefit all, not just a few. 📺 We strengthened our connection with the orthopaedic community at key congresses and events across Europe and were honoured to have our technology featured on television. DEUFOL is proud to support the MOHKI Mobile Pediatric Heart Clinic. 💓🏥 MOHKI by kinderherzen e.V. carries out life-saving heart surgeries for children in regions where medical care is difficult to access. The mobile clinic travels to remote communities to carry out operations for children with heart disease, who otherwise would have little chance of receiving necessary treatment. DEUFOL helps to get the highly specialized equipment safely, on time and in perfect condition at destination. Traditional evidence-based approaches have failed to develop any treatments for tinnitus. That’s why it’s time for a new medical research approach: War on Tinnitus. Exciting News for Organ Donation in the Netherlands! 🚨 After a positive evaluation by Zorginstituut Nederland, from January 1st 2025 the Dutch government will begin reimbursing Normothermic Regional Perfusion (NRP) for abdominal organs. This follows the success of the earlier pilot project by Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) and Erasmus Medical Center, which demonstrated the benefits of NRP in improving organ utilization with excellent transplant outcomes. 👍 Our next step will be to set up the first randomized controlled trial worldwide comparing NRP with current state-of-art machine preservation techniques in a national study. This collaborative project, involving LUMC, ErasmusMC, UMC Groningen, Dutch Transplant Foundation (NTS), and the Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Sport (VWS), aims to further optimize the organ preservation process and improve the success of transplants across the country. We’ve all seen the statistic – more than 1 billion people worldwide suffer from uncorrected refractive error. There are many organizations out there doing great work to meet the desperate need for free and low-cost eye exams and eyeglasses. But, there’s one – Optometry Giving Sight (OGS) – that is meeting not only the immediate need that exists for exams and glasses but is also providing long-term solutions by addressing the root cause of the problem of preventable blindness – the dire shortage of optometrists in undeveloped and developing countries. The organization raises money from optometrists and others in our industry to fund an annual grant program. Since its inception, the organization has funded projects that have served 8 million patients in 47 countries. It has also helped establish 14 optometry schools and trained more than 14,000 optometrists and allied health professionals to treat patients in underserved parts of the world. To date, OGS has awarded more than 200 grants totaling more than $23 million. North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust was recently awarded £10k to support the implementation of the Green Theatres Checklist within our Elective Surgery Hub at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. This funding will be used to increase use of reusables, increase recycling and improve waste segregation and increase awareness of the environmental benefits of TIVA and low flow anaesthetics. The support within the Theatres Team has been incredible - particular shout out to Carla Veigas and Sivaprakash Vaitheeswaran . The Trust has also be lucky to receive support from Sara Lightowlers, NHS Chief Sustainability Officer's Clinical Fellow.
