The worlds first electric hydrofoil ferry is now operational between Ekerö and Stockholm City Hall! Super interesting to see this new and fresh take on public transport. The Candela P12 is designed specifically for public transport and have a capacity of 30 passengers. There is a lot to uncover here, but some of main benefits are - Electric = Silent and clean - Foil = Efficient and stable - No wake = Potential speed limit exemption, resulting in faster travel - Uses car charging infrastructure (no MW charger needed) = Low capex - Designed for single-person crew = Low opex And much, much more. Now comes the challenging part: convincing public procurement to take a chance on this innovative approach to water mobility. It will probably be challenging, but nothing worth having comes easy. https://lnkd.in/dAYDACVQ

Wonderful piece of engineering. And -to some extent- out of the box innovation: travel by waterway is 50% of the time compared to road travel (1hour) on this commute.

2mo«Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes...» I'm so fascinated by Candela just for the reasons you just listed, and how they don't fit into the idea of ferries nor how procurements are set up today. In some ways they are the micromobility of urban, waterborne transport - completely changing the game and opening up new opportunities.
