This is a great example of how even if plastic is labeled recyclable and gets thrown in the recycle bin, that doesn't mean it will *actually* be recycled. Unfortunately, most plastic ends up in either a landfill or the ocean.... 👎 ♻️ One of the many great things about 100% molded fiber packaging (Like Hartmann North America's egg cartons) is that it is 100% biodegradable. Personal story: When I attended COP27 in Egypt in 2022 still with Circle Economy you could find recycling bins that allowed you to sort, plastics, metals, paper, glass everywhere As you can imagine for a climate conference, attendees took this very seriously, especially as the organisation put up big signs explaining the 'why' and the 'how'. Just after I put some trash in the bin, the staff made the rounds to collect the waste and I asked if I could join them. When we reached the main trash collection site, they ended up putting all the sorted waste in one large container .... My point of telling this story is not that recycling does not matter - it does. However, few people really know where there waste ends up. In addition, the majority of our products such as plastics are not really designed for recycling or reuse and end up being landfilled or incinerated. Let's put more focus on design and clever reuse models and less waste to make circularity happen! Your thoughts? #regeneration #circulareconomy #recycling

It does beg the question why? Why is so much energy in business put into avoiding/ circumventing circular economy strategies? Prime example, I recently called out a mega corporation for seeming greenwash and was duly 'corrected'*. But the correction just pointed out more subversion; the person used to justify the corps actions is a lobbyist for the timber industry who now trades 'carbon credits'. Vested interests anyone?!. So returning to the question; Is the circular economy bad for old economic practices? Watch out for greenwashing aka🌱 eco-fraud 🛑 environmental deception ✨ Green sheen🌈 eco-illusion🪞 environmental window dressing🌳 nature-washing, and my personal not-favourite, 🎭 sustainability spin. Like Forest Stewardship Council certified materials from responsibly managed forests. 3. Choose recyclable, certified paperboard packaging from Masterpack Cape. Did you know that plastics and used tires are major contributors to the emissions of greenhouse gases that are affecting our environment and climate? As plastics decay, they release traces of methane and ethylene, two powerful greenhouse gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect. Additionally, the burning of plastic waste emits black carbon, which has a warming impact up to 1,500 times stronger than CO2 per unit of mass. The good news is that Black carbon lasts only days to weeks in the atmosphere but has significant direct and indirect impacts on the climate, snow and ice, agriculture, and human health. With the world emitting around 54.6 billion tonnes of CO2 annually, plastics alone are responsible for around 3.3% of global emissions. This is a staggering amount, considering the detrimental impact it has on our planet. It's crucial that we take action to reduce our use of plastics and properly dispose of them to minimize their contribution to greenhouse gas emissions. Building Quad B Multisport facilities using repurposed materials soil used tires and recycled plastics will reduce the amount greenhouse gas emissions from such materials hence contribute to a stable climate, clean environment and play a part in contributing to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We all have a responsibility to protect our environment and combat climate change. By making simple changes in our daily lives, such as reducing our use of plastics and properly recycling them, we can make a positive impact on our planet. Today at #COP29, we joined an insightful discussion on "Decarbonizing the global textile value chains – trade policy and practical experiences" along with representatives from UN Environment Programme, UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) and Forum on Trade, Environment & the SDGs (TESS) The main takeaway? LIXIL Presents Efforts to Decarbonize Buildings at COP29 We are thrilled to share that LIXIL participated as a panelist for the first time at the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, held this month in Baku, Azerbaijan. In our presentation, we highlighted our key developments for reducing operational carbon emissions and embodied carbon emissions, including promoting the circular economy: 🔎PremiAL, recycled aluminum building material－ Smelting new ingots requires a significant amount of electricity. In contrast, using recycled aluminum can reduce 97% of CO₂ emissions from this process. 🌱revia, new circular building material－revia can be made from almost all waste plastic. Utilizing waste that otherwise can't be recycled reduces emissions by 80% per tonne. By imagining a future where environmentally damaging materials are given a second life in useful products, we continue our commitment to make better homes a reality for everyone, everywhere.
