We should talk about the big elephant in the room. The job market for junior software developers is facing some tough challenges. With large language models like Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI tools like Copilot and Cursor, many traditional entry-level coding tasks are now automated. These tools can often complete code snippets, debug, and even build simple applications 50 times faster and better than any junior developer or 2 of them. A sad reality, many companies are rethinking their staffing strategies, with some deciding if it's easier (and cheaper) to rely on a $19.99 AI monthly subscription rather than to hire and train junior talent. I've been in junior developer shoes myself, and compared to people who are seriously good at coding - I still feel like one. Being junior is about working on boring tasks that nobody has time for, breaking things and asking questions, but most importantly bringing a fresh perspective to the company, new energy and fun. It feels like we losing these folks, and future pipeline of talented software engineers might be jeopardised.

What is Devin? The AI software engineer everyone is talking about. AI as a Software Engineer: Devin can handle coding, testing, and deployment autonomously in multiple programming languages. Learning and Adapting: It learns from each project, improving its efficiency and capabilities over time. Collaboration with Humans: Designed to assist rather than replace human engineers, enhancing team productivity. Real-World Applications: From website creation to app development and software testing, Devin has already shown its potential in actual projects. **************Will Devin AI replace software engineers' jobs?******************

The Evolution of Junior Developer Life: SE 1.0 (001.0) Junior Dev: - 8am: Boot terminal, question career choice - 10am: Stare at cryptic legacy code - 2pm: Break production trying to fix a typo - 4pm: Hide from senior dev after breaking prod - 6pm: Leave wondering if programming is for you SE 2.0 (010.0) Junior Dev: - 8am: Update 12 npm packages - 10am: Google "how to center div" for 100th time 🤦♂️ - 2pm: Try to understand why microservices - 4pm: Accidentally push to the main branch 😱 - 6pm: Wonder which framework to learn next SE 2.5 (010.1) Junior Dev Today: - 8am: Ask ChatGPT to explain yesterday's code - 10am: Debug AI-generated code you don't understand - 2pm: Wonder if learning to code was necessary - 4pm: Prompt engineering > actual engineering - 6pm: Contemplate if AI will replace you before you become senior The only constant? Imposter syndrome 😅 They say that in SE 3.0 we'll need an "AI psychology" degree to debug AI's code... 🤖 #JuniorDev #Programming #TechHumor #CodingLife #AI

DON'T JUST MEMORISE THE SYNTAX, LEARN HOW TO PROGRAM COMPUTERS. "Don't just memorize the syntax" is an age-old adage in software engineering. Many senior software engineers advise junior and aspiring software engineers to focus on understanding how code works, rather than merely memorizing syntax. This guidance is more relevant now than ever, given the rise of generative AI tools like ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude AI, and Black Box AI, which can generate code in seconds. However, those who have worked with these tools know that only individuals with a solid grasp of programming fundamentals and computer basics can effectively debug issues arising from their use. Therefore, while learning syntax is essential, it is extremely important to: 1. Learn to read and understand computer programs. 2. Master debugging techniques. 3. Master software engineering principles, including: - Data structures and algorithms. - Networking. - Computer fundamentals. - Design patterns and principles. - Testing methodologies. 4. Understand programming paradigms. 5. Familiarize oneself with the software development life cycle. This comprehensive approach enables developers to write efficient, optimized code. Memorization alone cannot replace a deep understanding of programming principles. As usual, Let’s keep going.

Will DEVIN replace Software Engineers? ( Game-changer or Job-taker? ) Meet Devin, the latest AI sensation in software engineering. Devin boasts a remarkable 12% improvement over ChatGPT in solving software engineering problems. Developed by Cognition Labs, last week's news about this AI shook the software engineering world. I've even received personal messages asking whether it's worth pursuing a career in software engineering if Devin is set to replace human engineers. Here's my take: 1. While AI like Devin excels in automating tasks and coding, software engineers play a crucial role in designing, building, and maintaining core software infrastructure. 2. AI still has a long way to go before it can fully replace human programmers. After all, products are created by humans for humans. 3. Software engineering involves understanding and interpreting human product requirements, a task that AI cannot fully undertake yet. Devin is more than welcome as a pair programmer. While he handles the coding, I focus on the creative aspect. 😜 It's yet another powerful tool for saving time and boosting productivity. Devin is a promising tool that can significantly improve software development, but it's not a replacement for human expertise. It may, however, replace junior devs and copy-paste developers. So, fellow devs, fear not. it is not yet time for AI to take our jobs. The big question is: Are you ready to be better than AI?

The World of development, programmers, and software engineers changed in the last 24 hours with the introduction of Devin by Cognition Labs. World First AI Software Engineer. Devin can excel in interviews at top AI companies and complete tasks on Upwork successfully! Devin is a new model that excels in reasoning and long-term planning. It comes with its shell, code editor, and browser. It even relies on print statements and consoles like the rest of us. Now, there are only two skills needed to do programming. 1. Imagination 2. Getting API keys. #Devin #AI

WOW! check this out This is Devin, the first AI software Engineer: This AI software engineer has the capability to take a single command and turn it into a functioning website or software programme. Devin can also identify and rectify bugs, reducing the time and effort required for troubleshooting. Instead of just offering coding suggestions and auto-completing some tasks, Devin can take on and finish an entire software project on its own. It is equipped with its own command line, code editor, and browser which helps it to operate independently #AI, #AI software engineer
