Happy World Children's Day! Today, we celebrate the power, dreams, and potential of children everywhere. Under this year’s theme, "Listen to the Future," we are reminded of the importance of amplifying children's voices and hear what they have to say about the world they want to live in. They are not just our future; they are our present. Together, let’s create a brighter, more inclusive future where every child feels seen, heard, and valued. #WorldChildrensDay #listentothefuturee #UntilWeAreAllEquall #equality #childrights

Our October recommendation is Included: A book for all children about inclusion, diversity, disability, equality and empathy by Jayneen Sanders. This book introduces the reader to six wonderful kids: Sam, Rishi, Jay, Audrey, Ty and Zara. The aim of this story is to ensure all kids understand that kids with disability are just like kids everywhere. They love playing games, books, making stuff and being silly. They have things they are good at and things they need to work on. And just like kids everywhere they want to feel safe, loved and included. This book provides the reader with ways they can be more inclusive in their play and encourages the celebration of diversity in all its unique and wonderful forms. Children will come away with a growing understanding that people everywhere have differing abilities, and this only makes the world a more colorful, exciting, diverse and amazing place. Her Vision for the Future: Empowering Girls with Disabilities As we mark the International Day of the Girl Child 2024, we are reminded of the powerful vision girls with disabilities hold for the future. They see a world where they are fully included, where their abilities are celebrated, their voices heard, and their contributions recognized. I've consistently advocated for girls and women with disabilities to be at the heart of decision-making processes. Their perspectives are essential in shaping policies that impact their lives. Yet, while many girls are breaking barriers and achieving greatness, we must recognize that there are still countless doors that need to be opened. Opportunities in education, healthcare, and leadership remain inaccessible to many girls with disabilities. This year’s theme, Her Vision for the Future, calls us to support and amplify the dreams and ambitions of these girls. We must ensure that their vision is not only heard but integrated into our shared future. The future is brighter when all girls, including those with disabilities, can envision themselves leading, innovating, and thriving. #HerVisionForTheFuture #InternationalDayOfTheGirlChild #DisabilityInclusion #Leadership #DisabilityRights #InclusiveFuture #GirlsWithDisabilities

As professional researchers, these numerous examples of “good practice” might offer us concrete ways to involve young children in decision-making processes. They also highlight how we can avoid hindering their decision-making freedom from an adultism-critical perspective. Thank you for this insightful toolkit! #ChildParticipation #GoodPractice #Adultism #Research #ParticipatoryResearch #Toolkit
📣 Hub na nÓg and the DCEDIY are proud to announce the launch of a toolkit for including children from birth to 5 years in decision-making. The toolkit provides guidance on how to listen to babies, toddlers and young children and involve them in decision-making on matters that affect their lives. The toolkit is intended to be a useful resource for all adults who work with and support babies, toddlers and young children. The toolkit is based on the National Framework on the Participation of Children and Young People in Decision-making. It is informed by children, adults who work directly with children, and a literature review on methodologies for consulting children from birth to five years that was overseen by an Early Years Working Group, made up of early years educators and specialists. We are very grateful to everyone who contributed to the development of the toolkit. The toolkit is available to download at https://lnkd.in/ewcQw2EU To support the launch of the toolkit, we are hosting an e-learning session on Tuesday the 10th of December which will present a comprehensive review of the literature and practice that has informed the development of this toolkit. Registration details are available via Eventbrite https://lnkd.in/e3mHS4Ex Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth

Very useful toolkit from Hub na nÓg on including children under 5 years old in decision-making. This age group is often left out from participatory processes so this is a very rare resource on the issue. #childrights #childparticipation #earlychildhood

Did you know? If people with disabilities voted at the same rate as those without disabilities, we’d have 2 million more voters! That’s a huge impact! Let’s work to make voting more accessible. Every vote counts, and together, we can push for an inclusive democracy where people with disabilities have equal access to the polls. Let’s close the gap! 🗳️ Learn how to get involved: https://lnkd.in/gZ2Sqc4i #DisabilityRights #AccessibleVoting #REVUP #NDVRW2024 #EveryVoteMatters #Inclusion #VoterEquality #VotingRights

As a mother of a child with disabilities, International Women’s Day takes on a unique significance. And this years theme “Inspire Inclusion” really resonates with me. It’s an opportunity to recognise the incredible strength, resilience, and compassion that these women demonstrate every day. Here’s what it means to me as a Special Mum, A Mum, A Warrior, A Advocate, A Carer, A Wife, A Friend, A Family Member, A Employee, A Founder And Philanthropist 💙🧡 Mothers of children with disabilities embody the diversity and complexity of womanhood. We navigate challenges with grace and resilience, showing the strength that comes from embracing diversity in all its forms. Special Mum’s are often fierce advocates for our children, fighting for our rights, inclusion, and access to resources. International Women’s Day is a reminder of the power of advocacy and the importance of empowering women to advocate for themselves and their loved ones. Mothers of children with disabilities break down societal barriers and challenge stereotypes about motherhood and disability. We demonstrate that motherhood knows no bounds and that love and care transcend limitations. International Women’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate the community of women who support and uplift each other, especially mothers of children with disabilities. These women often find strength and solidarity in connecting with others who share similar experiences. Despite the unique challenges they face, mothers of children with disabilities continue to show boundless love, patience, and dedication. Our resilience in the face of adversity is a testament to the power of maternal love and the strength of the human spirit. On International Women’s Day, let us celebrate and honor the mothers of children with disabilities for our courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to our families. Today I celebrate me! And my right to be included, have the right to a career beyond a carer, to have a seat at the table, be respected when I am fighting for the rights of my child, to belong and to be invited.
