We spoke to Earth Guardians
- What is the main aim of Earth Guardians?
To train and empower diverse youth to become leaders capable of driving intersectional climate justice solutions.
- How are young people involved in this initiative?
Our Crews program provides resources, such as educational guides, training, campaigns, networking, grants, and mentorship, to guide youth in leading climate justice projects in their communities. We then amplify their work to our global network so they can inspire and scale their work with others.
- How does Earth Guardians' work benefit the youth?
Our strategy is to build agency/leadership, community, and non-violent direct action skills within our youth to give them the tools they need to create the future they want to see. Our work benefits youth because we don't tell them what they need; we listen and provide them with what they need to make positive change extending beyond the climate crisis.
- What are the short-term and long-term goals of this initiative?
The short term is to continue to expand our crews by recruiting more people of any age, location, or crew size to join our program and start to take action utilizing our resources. Our Crews stretch across six continents and have done work from reforesting 40,000 mangroves to suing the US government for climate change effects to training 100 women in Odisha in beekeeping and gardening.
Our long-term goal is to have the impact our Crews make solve the climate crisis and create a positive future where we all thrive because inequities for people and the planet have been solved. We have a generation of elders (our current youth) teaching other generations how to solve future conflicts with the same values of benefiting people and the planet
