Imagination, fun, ideas, and hope for the future--all things we love. 9 in 10 children say that they care about climate change. And when they were given #LEGO to express their ideas in 3D, tangible forms, their imaginations were able to connect, explore, and grow together. Expressing our abstract ideas in concrete ways that others can see, understand, and build upon grows collaborative strength. What would your 3D model look like for a sustainable future? What ideas do you have floating around right now for yourself or your company that could benefit from exploring through 3D brick building? #legoseriousplay #sustainability #buildthechange
In 2023, over 2 MILLION children participated in #LEGOBuildTheChange🌎 ― our free social impact program that empowers the next generation to build a more sustainable future through PLAY! 🌍🎉 Today is the first-ever International Day of Play, a UN-recognized celebration dedicated to preserving, promoting, and prioritizing play for all! 🎉🌍 Play is a universal language that transcends national, cultural, and socio-economic boundaries, fostering community and national pride. It is essential for building resilience, creativity, and innovation in individuals, particularly children. Play helps develop cognitive, physical, creative, social, and emotional skills needed to thrive in our rapidly changing world. In honor of this day, THINGS LAB invites you to join our Global Scavenger Hunt Portrait! Let's create a moment of global unity through play and creativity. Your Mission: 1. Collect at least 4 THINGS: • Something Long • Two circles • One thing with corners (like a triangle, square, or diamond) 2. Create a self-portrait using your THINGS. 3. Take a photo of your creation. 4. Share it with the world using the hashtag #thinkwiththings. This activity is more than just fun; it's a powerful way to engage in a universal language that builds connections and fosters innovation. Play not only enriches childhood but also enhances adult creativity and problem-solving skills, making it crucial for personal and professional growth. For more information look at : https://lnkd.in/eRYmjCuX and https://lnkd.in/eecSASdr Why Play Matters: • Intellectual Development: Play enhances learning across all areas – intellectual, social, emotional, and physical. • Social Skills: Through play, children and adults alike learn to forge connections, develop leadership skills, and navigate social challenges. • Resilience and Mental Health: Play provides a safe space for children to process experiences, especially in times of crisis, and contributes to overall well-being. Celebrate this day with us by playing, sharing, and connecting. Let's show the world the importance of play in building a better, more creative, and resilient future. Join the Global Scavenger Hunt Portrait and share your creations with the world! Together, we can make thinking and learning happen EVERYWHERE WITH EVERYTHING. #WorldDayOfPlay #GlobalScavengerHunt #CreativeCatalysts #ThinkWithThings #UNInternationalDayofPlay United Nations The LEGO Foundation #powerofplay

A crucial aspect of #learning is how it helps children build confidence and takes them through the process of decision making. A process of play allows them to gain #confidence in their abilities and learn the impact of their choices, fostering a sense of control and self-efficacy. Additionally, play encourages #social interaction, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, which are critical for developing #autonomy and #resilience. By engaging in play, children learn to navigate their environments and assert their individuality, laying the foundation for a proactive and empowered approach to life’s challenges. at Involve we have been thinking of integrating this aspect in the way kids learn. Thoughts?

Do you play every day? Play can feel self-indulgent, counter-intuitive, and a downright waste of time when you're struggling, lonely, fearful, under pressure to perform, just trying to stay afloat... But play is shown to heal through learning, life skills, and psychosocial well-being for children. Why wouldn't that also be true for adults? While the UN-recognized International Day of Play, coordinated by a network of organisations and initiated by the LEGO Group Group and The LEGO Foundation Foundation, is about putting play back on the agenda for children, perhaps it should be about EVERYONE celebrating the power of play. How do you build play into your day for yourself? your colleagues? your workplace? #InternationalDayofPlay #MentalHealth #Possibilities

'............play helps us be our best, it helps us to stay healthy and feel good inside and out. It helps us to learn stuff and get creative........' And so the United Nations General Assembly agrees by declaring June 11 every year the International Day of Play! What a momentous time for children in Africa and around the world. This milestone marks a significant step towards recognizing the importance of play in children's lives worldwide. With this historic endorsement, we are proud to join other partners including the The LEGO Foundation to unveil the launch of the Children and Young People's Call to Action. This initiative is the culmination of extensive global online consultations and focus group discussions involving over 10,000 children. Their voices have spoken loud and clear, providing invaluable insights and recommendations to the UN, governments, civil society organizations, parents, and businesses. Our findings highlight the critical role of play in enhancing children's learning and healthy development. From fostering creativity and problem-solving skills to promoting mental well-being and social interaction, play is fundamental to a child's holistic development. As we embark on this journey, we call upon all stakeholders to join us in championing the rights of children to play. Together, let's create environments that nurture and prioritize play, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive through play. You can find children and young people’s Call to Action in the link below ⤵ The consultations with children and young people have been supported by the Child and Youth Friendly Governance Project in collaboration with ADEA, BRAC, The Concerned for Working Children, the Government of Sierra Leone, International Play Association (IPA World), University of Cambridge, and the LEGO Group. #InternationalDayofPlay #PowerofPlay #ChildRights #ChildandYouthFriendlyGovernance

Play Makes a Better World - UN Day of Play. Today marks the first ever International Day of Play instituted by the United Nations General Assembly to safeguard children's fundamental right to play, following a successful campaign by Save the Children, the LEGO Group and the LEGO Foundation and other partners, to recognise play as a critical developmental activity for children. According to the United Nations, this day "creates a unifying moment at global, national and local levels to #elevate the importance of #Play. As practioner and an #advocate for #learning through play, I am in a flutter by this news. The observance of this day will open calls for policies, trainings, workshops and funding to get play integrated into education and community setting worldwide. Permit me to highlight a few of the benefits of play on children. 🎈 One of the most significant benefits of play is that is allows learners of all ages to explore their feelings and emotions as they create different scenarios and expirement new behaviours as they act them out. This is especially helpful for children struggling with emotional difficulties or those who have experienced traumatic events. 🎈 As learners play, they develop social skills such as sharing and taking turns, active listening, good communication, resolving conflicts and developing strong social connections. 🎈 Learners gain high cognitive abilities that makes them think outside the box, innovate, invent and gain deeper understanding of the world. 🎈 Learners develop a joy for learning which they carry with them into adulthood. As Maria Montessori said, "play is the work of the child" and if we want our learners to develop soft skills and achieve academic success as well as thrive in the workplace when they grow up, then we must inculcate play in our teaching and learning. This is our "why" at Kinder Bluum (World of Play and Adventure) Dear #parents, guardians and #educators, let us all pledge to create safe spaces for children to play to unearth their full potential and thrive. Happy UN International Day of Play! #playisessential #UNPlayDay2024 #playisasuperpower #experentiallearning #advocate

It is so important that we value the power of play and learning through play.
Happy International Day of Play! Play is powerful and deserves to be taken seriously. It is such an important part of how babies and young children learn about themselves, about how to connect with others and explore the world around them. It helps to develop skills that shape the rest of their lives – and they have fun while they are doing it. Every child deserves the time and space to play. #InternationalDayofPlay the LEGO Group https://lnkd.in/ejSREvgU

Check out this thought-provoking and inspiring article from Mitch Resnick. The two pieces from the article that resonated most with me are: “I hope that the four P’s of Projects, Passion, Peers and Play will lead to an all-important fifth P: Peace. If children have opportunities to work on creative projects as part of a caring community, they will be more likely to generate waves of kindness and contribute to a world that is more equitable, more just, and more peaceful.” And “First, we need to engage the next generation. Second, we must work together to foster a culture of creativity and caring.” This is beautiful. I love how the article ties everything together from the past several decades of work at the MIT Media Lab's Lifelong Kindergarten Group with what is needed in the future. Simply beautiful. #Creativity #Caring #Kindness #Projects #Passion #Peers #Play #Peace #Edchat #EdTech #K12 #education #coding #programming #CS #CSK12 #CSForAll
