A mismatch between materials needed to satisfy recycled content mandates—governmental and consumer—and supply, can only be bridged by significant investment in large-scale mechanical recycling facilities to drive down the cost of #recycling. IRG was founded to develop the country’s first hyper-scale (100,000+ tons p.a.) sorting, washing and pelletizing plant in Erie, PA. Now Sartorius and Covestro successfully tested the potential of closed-loop recycling of small-scale bioreactors, proving that the recycled polycarbonate can match the quality of virgin materials. Thank you Candice Chow 周 志 㯋 and Pablo Carter for inviting me to be a judge at the MBA Final Case Presentation at DeGroote School of Business - McMaster University. It was inspiring to see students looking for solutions to plastic packaging - specifically in the space of mesh netting. Plastic will never be circular. In fact, it's the antithesis of circular. That's why it's so critical that we look to nature-based alternative materials where packaging is required. As I closed out my final thoughts to the class, I read a quote which I felt was so appropriate as it relates to our path to removing plastics (and even better that it was moon-related given the eclipse today): "We choose to go to the moon. We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others, too." - JFK Many may think removing plastics to be impossible, but it's a challenge I'm certainly willing to accept and intend to win. #freshproduce #plastics #sustainablepackaging #packaging #innovation #moon #circularity VPZ Verpackungszentrum GmbH #compostable #compostablepackaging
