On December 21st, 2024, 55 remarkable women #artisans, just five months into their training program, took a bold step forward on a #transformative journey to Mithila Haat, Jhanjharpur, Madhubani, Bihar. #Madhubani, the birthplace and hub of the globally celebrated Madhubani art form, holds immense #cultural and historical significance. Visiting this revered place was deeply relevant for these artisans, who are currently being trained in the intricate techniques of Madhubani art. For many of these women, this was their first time stepping out of their homes, defying #societal norms and gender restrictions to explore a world of #creativity and #opportunity. At Mithila Haat—a vibrant cultural hub—they immersed themselves in refining Madhubani painting techniques, mastering colour theory, and learning traditional styles that embody the spirit of their heritage. This exposure visit became a turning point, as these women—once hesitant to speak or dream—walked confidently through the streets of the Haat, engaging with #local artists, building market connections, and envisioning a #sustainable future through their art. This journey is more than just a visit—it’s a testament to #empowerment, a celebration of culture, and a path to independence. With your support, these #artisans can continue to honour their roots while transforming their lives. 💕 #Donate today to empower women and preserve the rich legacy of Madhubani art. The Last of Us (maybe)! The next generation of dying weavers of Assam, the home to 1.1 million handloom weavers or 43% of the total country's weaver population! All of us will die, and so will all these weavers. But we have hope that our existence will linger on through our next generation. But do these weavers have that hope that their children (the next generation) will keep their age old weaving tradition alive. If you ask me, no, they won't. In fact, I've experienced that most of the children of the women weavers of Assam are not at all into handloom. Rural and remote locations of these weavers practically force them to not want their children to take up weaving, because currently this unorganised sector only makes them work more and earn less. (various factors are involved, would delve into those later). Instead if they've a girl child they would rather make preparations to get her married as soon as possible. So, if we cannot do something for these weavers, probably 25 years down the line only 10% of them will survive and maybe we'll become the last generation to know and wear handloom clothes.

This picture is from a small village named Jhapra in Sukma, Chhattisgarh. While interacting with the tribal women, I noticed this little child standing quietly nearby. I offered him a toffee, and this innocent moment was beautifully captured. Looking at this picture, I can’t help but wonder about his future. Will he grow up in a world that genuinely nurtures his potential, or will he face exploitation in the name of development? Will he have access to quality education, healthcare, and opportunities, or will his dreams be overshadowed by the challenges that so many in these remote areas face? This moment is a poignant reminder of the responsibility we all share. The choices we make today, whether as individuals, organizations, or governments, will shape the world for children like him. Let’s work towards creating a future where no child is left behind, and every child is empowered to dream, grow, and thrive. #TribalCommunities #SukmaDiaries #HopeForTheFuture #SustainableDevelopment #EveryChildMatters #Chhattisgarh #Children #Development

Nationwide Bharat Bandh Called by Dalit and Adivasi Groups Today Today, Dalit and Adivasi organizations have initiated a nationwide strike, the 'Bharat Bandh,' demanding enhanced representation and protections for marginalized communities. This comes in response to a recent Supreme Court judgment on SC/ST reservations, which these groups believe could undermine their progress. Prominent political entities like the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and the Bahujan Samaj Party have shown solidarity, voicing concerns that the ruling contradicts the foundational principles established in the landmark Indira Sawhney case. Leaders from these parties have called for active participation across their networks to support this critical cause. As professionals committed to social justice and equity, it's crucial we stay informed and engage in discussions around such significant movements. #SocialJustice #BharatBandh #Inclusion #DiversityAndInclusion #Leadership
