Good and Bad PR: the year in review from Andy Barr, Season One Communications "A whole year has rolled around and who doesn’t love a yearly round up? Well, it doesn’t matter what you want, you are getting one anyway. "When prepping for this article (despite what you may think, this is not my first rodeo), I like to have an overall think as to who had an overall Good or Bad year in PR. On the Good PR front brands like Greggs have had another stormer and solidified it's position as one of the UK’s most successful and loved brands. The Double Gregger bus tour has caught my eye, as have TV appearances in various documentaries. Will it continue into 2025, of course it will!" Read Andy's in-depth review https://lnkd.in/eYC4YpZM

We are often asked, “Do research-led PR campaigns work for more ”serious” publications, as well as the red tops?” The answer is YES, with the right ideas and execution. A few examples of recent Perspectus Global and GingerComms hits…. from The Times, to The Guardian, Telegraph, Indy100, Evening Standard, Sky News, BBC News, Forbes, The Week, and iNews… #earnedmedia #insights #surveys #UKnews

"The history of PR is… a history of a battle for what is reality and how people will see and understand reality.” —STUART EWEN PR is about narrative. It’s about context. PR is not about the bullsh*t we’ve been led to believe it is… Truth is, there are millions of ways to see any one event. As many perspectives as there are people. But which perspective a group decides is the REAL story is up for debate. That’s where we step in. Done well, PR is your ticket to controlling the narrative in the court of public opinion. It can aid every media channel that you operate on. Not only that, but it can turn good times into GREAT times for your company. And turn crises into opportunity.

Congrats to our client, i.c.stars! So, how'd they get this media coverage? A reporter at IT Brew saw a TV segment on Chicago's ABC-7 that featured i.c.stars' new program. That reporter reached out to i.c.stars to do this piece. Yesterday, the reporter's piece ran. It was a glowing feature story about the new program. And it got top billing on ITBrew.com, a leading trade publication for the IT industry. This is "stair-step PR" in action. Local media coverage --> Trade media coverage --> National media coverage. Landing in a top trade outlet like this is a phenomenal way to get into top national media outlets like Bloomberg, CNBC, WSJ, and the NYT. Why? Because reporters at top media outlets get story ideas from trade journals. Your brand can totally get national media coverage. And you don't need a PR firm to make it happen. With the right tools and training, you and your team can excel at PR. Don't have the internal bandwidth? This is also something a trained VA can manage for you. Congrats again to the team at i.c.stars for making this happen. We are thrilled for you and psyched for everything to come.

We've had lots of "locus of control" issues come up with clients and media of late. Here is a friendly reminder about what elements of the PR process you / your PR function control, and what media controls: You control: the start date of execution of PR activities The media controls: publication date ---- You control: the information you send to media The media controls: what gets published ---- You control: how you frame a story when you pitch it The media controls: the ultimate framing of a story ---- Try to keep this in mind. PR is made to influence an outcome. It does not guarantee an outcome.

If you work in the communications/media, you need to be reading SEMAFOR. This piece by Ben Smith and Maxwell Tani captures the fundamental changes in our industry centered around how mainstream news outlets aren’t the only ones influencing public opinion. "The biggest shift in contemporary politics and PR may be that the cost of an error has dropped, while the value of ubiquity has risen...Conversely, a fragmented media landscape means that you need to go on ten podcasts to reach the scale of audience a cable television show used to command. And so a new wave of public figures, and their advisers, will need to navigate in a looser and more forgiving media landscape."
