🆃🅷🅴 MORE YOU KNOW Did you know that our shoes can impact biodiversity when we travel to other places or countries? Soil, mud, and debris stuck to shoes can contain seeds, spores, diseases or small organisms from one ecosystem. When carried into a new area, these can introduce invasive species that outcompete native plants or animals, disrupting the balance of the ecosystem and reducing biodiversity. The wild flora and/or fauna are not adapted nor immunity ready to deal with those new "visitors". The same applies to clothing, backpacks or materials used during hikes or visits. Practising good trail etiquette, cleaning your shoes and materials before entering different environments, and sticking to regulations to prevent the spread of invasive species can help minimize the harmful effects on biodiversity. You may think this is too much, but look where we are... You've been cool'd! #becoolthursdays #themoreyouknowthemoreyougrow

Today marks the start of National Invasive Species Awareness Week. Did you know that invasive species can alter habitats and disrupt natural processes? Some even pose a threat to endangered species. Here's how you can help make a positive impact on our environment: 🌱🌍 ꜱᴛᴀʏ ɪɴꜰᴏʀᴍᴇᴅ: Stay updated on invasive species in your area to understand potential threats and preventive measures. ᴄʜᴏᴏꜱᴇ ɴᴀᴛɪᴠᴇ ᴘʟᴀɴᴛꜱ: Opt for native plants in your landscaping to support local ecosystems and reduce the risk of invasive species. ᴄʟᴇᴀɴ, ᴅʀᴀɪɴ, ᴀɴᴅ ᴅʀʏ: Before moving your boat or fishing gear to a new location, clean them thoroughly to prevent the spread of invasive species. ʙᴇ ᴄᴀᴜᴛɪᴏᴜꜱ ᴡɪᴛʜ ꜰɪʀᴇᴡᴏᴏᴅ: Use locally sourced firewood to avoid transporting invasive insects and pests to new areas. ᴇᴅᴜᴄᴀᴛᴇ ᴏᴛʜᴇʀꜱ: Spread awareness about invasive species and encourage others to adopt environmentally friendly practices to protect local biodiversity. #ProtectOurWildlife #UticaZooAwareness #UZ363

Save Insects, Save Birds: A Call on World Migratory Bird Day 2024 Insects are the unsung heroes of our ecosystems, playing a critical role in the food web. Their decline poses a serious threat to biodiversity. Birds like the Common Cuckoo, European Roller, and Barn Swallow rely on insects to fuel their long migrations across continents. Without abundant insect populations, these birds struggle to find the nourishment they need. Protecting insect habitats and reducing pesticide use is essential to ensuring the future of these migratory species. This World Migratory Bird Day, let’s remember: conserving insects is crucial to safeguarding our birds and in turn, ecosystems. #WorldMigratoryBirdDay2024 #SaveInsectsSaveBirds

World Migratory Bird Day Celebrating Nature's Global Travelers! 🦅🌿 Every year, millions of migratory birds embark on an incredible journey across continents, overcoming vast distances and numerous challenges. World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) is a global awareness-raising campaign aimed at highlighting the need for the conservation of migratory birds and their habitats. Why Celebrate Migratory Birds? Migratory birds play a vital role in our ecosystems by: -Controlling Pests: Many migratory birds feed on insects, keeping pest populations in check. - Pollination & Seed Dispersal: Birds help pollinate plants and spread seeds, contributing to biodiversity. - Indicating Environmental Health: The presence and absence of bird species can indicate the health of ecosystems. How Can You Help? - Protect Water Bodies: Support conservation efforts for wetlands and water habitats. - Plant Native Species: Create bird-friendly spaces by planting native trees and shrubs. - Say No to Plastic: Help reduce plastic waste, which threatens bird habitats. - Spread Awareness: Share information about migratory birds and their conservation needs. Let’s take a moment to appreciate and protect these amazing global travelers who connect us to ecosystems all over the world! 🌏🕊️ #WorldMigratoryBirdDay #BirdConservation #ProtectNature #MigratoryBirds #SaveOurWater #WildlifeConservation #sustaina_greens

Did you know? Our oceans are changing, and fish are on the move! • Marine species are migrating towards poles at 72 km per decade • Cod in the North Sea have shifted 120 km north in 40 years • Tuna are venturing further from the equator Why? Rising temperatures, shifting currents, and changing food availability are forcing fish to seek cooler waters. Impact: • Disrupted ecosystems • Challenges for fishing communities • Potential biodiversity loss What can we do? • Support marine protected areas • Advocate for sustainable fishing practices • Choose MSC certified seafood Let's protect our oceans and the life within them! #ClimateChange #MarineLife #FishMigration #OceanConservation #SustainableFishing #ClimateSolutions #MarineScience #BiodiversityMatters

Chimpanzees are key seed dispersers. Their diverse diet and wandering habits help scatter seeds far and wide, aiding in forest regeneration and supporting biodiversity. Plus, their unique ability to partially digest large seeds enhances the chances of successful germination. Protecting these intelligent creatures means safeguarding the health of our forests and the many species that rely on them. The #NaturesTechnicians report launches today, spotlighting lesser-known species from the mammal and insect world that play a crucial role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. These often overlooked species are vital in supporting ecosystem balance, from filtering water to pollinating crops. Take parrotfish, for instance. In marine reserves where they are protected, coral reefs are SIX TIMES more resilient to bleaching and other disturbances. This is just one example of how biodiversity helps sustain ecosystems. It’s clear that world leaders must take bold steps to #ActForOurPlanet at #COP16Colombia. #WWFUntangled The future of our planet depends on safeguarding this biodiversity: https://lnkd.in/gbTtzwYd

What is aquatic biodiversity, and why is it important? 🤔 Aquatic biodiversity can be described as anything that lives in the water, including plants, wildlife, and other organisms. Biodiversity helps regulate our climate, provide food for wildlife, maintain natural habitats, and more. Good biodiversity equals a good, healthy ecosystem. 🐟 🌱 At Sea & Shoreline, we work to create, enhance, and promote biodiversity. We are combating the biodiversity crisis, one plant at a time. 💪 #Biodiversity #Ecosystems #Wildlife

🐒 A monkey with an argument against carbon tunnel vision: rainforest loss means biodiversity loss too! Our issues are systemic & require changes in multiple areas - 👩🏫 including education about endangered species, 🍲 and providing food to people in need (so that they don't hunt animals to extinction). Biodiversity reminders, day #327 (-110)🌍🗓❗️ Northern muriqui Status: critically endangered Geographic range: humid coastal- and semideciduous forests in southeastern Brazil Threats: ⚠ deforestation due to agricultural expansion (incl. Cattle ranching), urbanization and (tourism) development ⚠ hunting, for food and sport, even within protected areas #climateaction #biodiversity #endangeredspecies
