🌍🐢 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆!🐢🌍 Turtles are vital to the health of our environment. Here are a few reasons why: 🌿 Ecosystem Balance: Turtles help maintain balanced food webs in both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. They control the population of their prey, such as insects and jellyfish, and their eggs provide a food source for other wildlife. 🌾 Habitat Maintenance: Sea turtles play a key role in marine environments by helping to maintain healthy seagrass beds and coral reefs, which in turn support diverse marine life. On land, tortoises contribute to seed dispersal, promoting plant growth and biodiversity. ♻️ Nutrient Cycling: The decomposition of turtle eggs and bodies provides essential nutrients to the soil and water, enriching the habitat for other species. Whether it's reducing plastic use, supporting conservation efforts, or spreading awareness, every effort counts. 🌏💚 #WorldTurtleDay #TurtleConservation #EcoFriendly #Biodiversity #Sustainability

🆃🅷🅴 MORE YOU KNOW Did you know that our shoes can impact biodiversity when we travel to other places or countries? Soil, mud, and debris stuck to shoes can contain seeds, spores, diseases or small organisms from one ecosystem. When carried into a new area, these can introduce invasive species that outcompete native plants or animals, disrupting the balance of the ecosystem and reducing biodiversity. The wild flora and/or fauna are not adapted nor immunity ready to deal with those new "visitors". The same applies to clothing, backpacks or materials used during hikes or visits. Practising good trail etiquette, cleaning your shoes and materials before entering different environments, and sticking to regulations to prevent the spread of invasive species can help minimize the harmful effects on biodiversity. You may think this is too much, but look where we are... You've been cool'd! #becoolthursdays #themoreyouknowthemoreyougrow

This #ScotClimateWeek, we’re talking about biodiversity. 🌿 The way that we manage outdoor space at our sites has an impact on biodiversity. Nurturing tall, species rich, grassland is a good way to improve biodiversity – but did you know around 7.5 million acres of species-rich tall grassland and wildflower meadows have been lost since the 1940s? Having a biodiverse ecosystem provides us with a range of benefits such as: -Clean air -Flood management -Natural pest control -Supporting wildlife -Physical health and mental wellbeing We’ve installed bug hotels 🐞, bat boxes 🦇, and planters 🌸 to give local wildlife and plants a place to thrive. Earlier this year, our NHSScotland Assure teams published the Sustainable Grassland Management Report, which provides tailored information for health boards across Scotland who are actively progressing a number of biodiversity projects at their own sites , including creating and managing species rich grassland: https://lnkd.in/e6Pgqtej #LetsDoNetZero

WHY should you care about restoring Oregon's kelp forests? 🐟 Biodiversity: Kelp forests are home to a wide variety of marine species. They provide habitat, food, and protection for fish, invertebrates, and marine mammals, playing a crucial role in maintaining marine biodiversity. 🤜 Coastal Protection: Kelp forests act as natural barriers, reducing the impact of strong waves and storm surges on coastal areas. This helps to prevent erosion and protect coastal communities. 🌞 Carbon Sequestration: Kelp absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, helping to mitigate climate change. Through photosynthesis, kelp forests can sequester significant amounts of carbon, contributing to efforts to reduce global greenhouse gas levels. 💴 Economic Value: Kelp supports local economies through activities such as fishing, tourism, and seaweed harvesting. Healthy kelp forests can boost fisheries by providing essential habitats for commercially important species. 🌊 Cultural Importance: For many Indigenous communities along the Oregon coast, kelp holds cultural significance. It has been used for centuries in traditional practices and continues to be an important resource. 🔧 Ecosystem Services: Kelp forests contribute to the overall health of marine ecosystems by providing oxygen, nutrient cycling, and supporting the productivity of the ocean. They play a critical role in the balance of marine environments. By protecting and restoring kelp forests, we can ensure the health and sustainability of Oregon's marine ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.
