Expanding Our Circle: Sesera Youth’s Piglet Project Grows Stronger The Sesera Youth’s Piglet Project is thrilled to announce an exciting new phase in our journey of community empowerment and shared success for the first group Each of the families that have flourished with their piglets are now stepping into a role of leadership and mentorship. They are selecting ten more families based on specific criteria, presenting them to our project for consideration. Upon approval, these new families will join a savings group, with their nominating family as the chairperson. This isn’t just about adding numbers; it’s about strengthening the fabric of our community. The savings group serves as a platform for financial education, mutual support, and collective growth, all under the watchful guidance of the Sesera Youth’s Piglet Project. Imagine the impact: a network of families, interconnected and resilient, each contributing to and benefiting from the group’s collective wisdom and resources. This is the vision we’re bringing to life—one where every member is both a learner and a leader. Let’s celebrate this new chapter where empowerment is not just given, but earned and shared. While we do this daily, we recently outlined six core strands that show how we create hope: 🌱 Planting Hope: We begin by sowing the seeds of positivity and possibility in young minds. 🌿 Nurturing Hope: Through guidance and support, we help these seeds grow, providing the tools and encouragement needed. 🌸 Blossoming Hope: As confidence and skills develop, we watch our young people bloom, ready to take on new challenges. 🌳 Rooting Hope: We ensure these new strengths are firmly rooted, giving them stability and resilience. 🌾 Harvesting Hope: We celebrate achievements and milestones, recognising the hard work and dedication of our young community. 🌟 Reseeding Hope: Finally, we encourage our young people to share their experiences and inspire others, creating a cycle of hope that continually grows and spreads. Together, we create a sustainable framework for empowering young people to reach their full potential and make a positive impact in the world. 🧗♂️ What are we fighting for? 🧗♂️ As part of the movement for development justice, we must always consider what we are fighting against and what we are fighting for. Indigenous and traditional communities are fighting against governments, companies and harsh realities like climate change, corporate capture and neo-colonialism to secure their land, resources and culture for future generations. In a new collective report, IAP collaborated with 7 communities in 7 countries, and dozens of partners around the world, to conduct community-led research and create community-led development plans - envisioning what these communities are fighting for. Their collective recommendations will be presented as policy recommendations especially to actors that are increasingly framing their top-down development investments as 'community-led'. These 7 communities have truly inspired me and will inspire you. They prove they are the true experts for decisions affecting their lives and livelihood and are active leaders realizing their own right to development.
