Today, on Human Rights Day, let’s talk about accessibility as a basic human right. The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) states that accessibility is essential for people with disabilities to enjoy their human rights and freedoms. Yet nearly 1 billion people with disabilities face significant challenges in daily life, including accessing healthcare, education, and employment. It’s time to make a change. Let’s break down these barriers and create a more inclusive, accessible world for everyone. Start your journey to accessibility by signing up and committing to Purple Tuesday today: https://lnkd.in/erhKyxkd Alt text: An illustration set on a purple backdrop with a series of hands, of varying shape, size, ability and ethnicity reaching upward hopefully. Equality, Equity, Accessibility, Fairness, and Justice: these are the ideals that individuals with disabilities strive for. Growing up with my sister, who is both deaf and unable to speak, has profoundly shaped my perspective. I have witnessed firsthand the numerous challenges she faces daily, simply trying to navigate a world that often overlooks her needs. The barriers she encounters, many of which stem from societal attitudes and lack of understanding, highlight the urgent need for change. From an early age, I made it my mission to advocate for her and ensure she has an equal opportunity to pursue her goals. While I have not always succeeded, my commitment to this mission remains strong. As a society, we must prioritize caring for people with disabilities—not merely as a checkbox on a list but by genuinely understanding their challenges and experiences. It’s essential to offer fair opportunities in the workplace and to empower individuals to thrive. By working together to dismantle barriers and promote inclusivity, we can create a world where everyone has the chance to succeed. #Ability #people #diability #equal #betterworkplace #socity #future #inclusive #togather

Emma Thompson calls attention to the fundamental change that society must make: universal accessibility. Most products, services, and environments fail to extend usability to the disabled community. There are five major barriers to ubiquitous accessibility including attitudinal, systematic, architectural, informational, and technological barriers. Organizations and individuals must amend behaviors and perceptions that discriminate against persons of disabilities. By doing so, everyone can navigate and interact with our world! Image Description: Light orange background with orange circle. Inside the circle black text reads “Being disabled should not mean being disqualified from having access to every aspect of life.” –Emma Thompson. Our communities are enriched by diversity. When we embrace people with disabilities, we open the door to creativity, innovation, and resilience. We learn that there are multiple ways to solve a problem, multiple ways to experience joy, and multiple ways to achieve greatness.Consider the artist who paints with his feet, the scientist who communicates through a speech device, the athlete who races with a wheelchair. These individuals do not succeed in spite of their disabilities but because they have harnessed their unique perspectives and strengths.Yet, despite these examples of extraordinary potential, barriers remain. Physical barriers, yes, but also barriers of ignorance and prejudice. These are the barriers we must break down with urgency and determination. Education and awareness are key. We must teach our children—and remind ourselves—that disability is a natural part of the human experience.Inclusion is not merely about physical access; it’s about social acceptance. It’s about creating an environment where everyone feels valued and included. This means not only accommodating disabilities but celebrating them. It means hiring people with disabilities, supporting their ambitions, and respecting their rights. #disability #inclusion #respect #pride #independence Ability Options
