This was a very interesting and enlightening talk from Spencer Dale. My key takeaway from the session was the elevator pitch on accelerating the energy transition:- 1) The whole world needs to decarbonize. 2) Energy efficiency is key - everyone can contribute. 3) We must decarbonize power systems 4) Application not invention - we know what needs to be done - just do it!
⚡️🌍 Mark your calendars to attend the upcoming Technical event of the 2024-25 Technical Series of SPE Abu Dhabi Section Guest Speaker: Spencer Dale, Chief Economist, bp Mr. Spencer Dale manages BP’s economics and energy insights team which provides advice and analysis on the global energy system, the energy transition, and the evolving nature of the energy system as it moves to net zero. It was a great pleasure to attend the 7th International Conference on RENEWABLE ENERGY GENERATION AND APPLICATION (ICREGA 2024) that was hosted at Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University, Saudi Arabia and also co-hosted by United Arab Emirates University, UAE. We had the opportunity to attend the conference virtually and present a total of four papers related to Solar energy applications, which I authored and co-authored. The papers are as follows: 1. Adaptive cooling framework for Photovoltaic systems: A seasonal investigation under the terrestrial conditions of Sharjah, UAE. 2. Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System for DC Power Forecasting for Grid-Connected PV System in Sharjah. 3. An Automated and Cost-efficient Method for Photovoltaic Dust Cleaning based on Biaxially Oriented Polyamide Coating Material. 4. Experimental investigation on the thermal and exergy efficiency for a 2.88 kW Grid connected photovoltaic/thermal system. I would like to thank the conference organizers for hosting this fruitful and wonderful conference. Also, my sincere thanks to all the co-authors and collabrators for their contributions in this work. #research #conference #UAE #SaudiArabia #solarenergy #PVsystems #AI #Experiments #presentations #renewableenergy #greenenergy #sustainability

IES Ltd. partnered with the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure to explore the use of its innovative Intelligent Communities Lifecycle (ICL) digital twin technology to help create a net-zero or positive energy block (PEB) for a new development proposed by the UAE government. This pilot project showed that the PEB methodology can be implemented more widely in the UAE with results that, if extrapolated, exceed the national environmental goals in term of GHG emission reduction. Compared to the goals set in the 2050 UAE Energy strategy (50% of clean energy production by 2050) or in the UAE Vision 2021 (27% of clean energy production by 2021), this project shows that it is possible to have 93.7% of the Campus’s energy consumption coming from on-site clean energy. Do connect if you have such a project in pipeline. We can help. 😀 More details here: https://lnkd.in/gphDkX3b #energymodelling #netzero #energyefficiency #renewableenergy #energynetworks #iesve #emmissionreduction

Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, stated that the UAE plans to invest up to AED200 billion to meet sustainable energy demand over the next six years, aiming to "decarbonise our economy and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050."💸 In his remarks on the occasion of the launch of ADIPEC 2024 today, Suhail Al Mazrouei added that "our efforts to diversify the energy mix and increase reliance on clean energy sources align with our goal of reducing carbon intensity in our oil and gas operations by an additional 25% over the next decade.''🛢 He affirmed that the UAE serves as a model for an ambitious and practical transition to clean energy sources. ‘’We continue to meet today's global energy needs while heavily investing in clean energy systems for the future. We already have significant investments in clean energy projects in operation and others under development,'' he said.♻ Source: Zawya - read full article here https://lnkd.in/d7bHrSpf #renewables #renewableenergy #energy #infrastructure #sustainableenergy #adepic #cleanenergy #middleeast #uae

I am thrilled to share that my latest research paper, derived from my PhD studies, titled “Impact of Renewable Integration on Day-Ahead and Real-Time Market Prices under One- and Two-Price Imbalance Settlements,” has been accepted for an oral presentation at the Saudi Arabia Smart Grid 2024 (SASG24) conference! In this paper, I analyze one- and two-price imbalance settlements and their implications on revenue and payments received or made by market participants. Using PLEXOS simulations, I demonstrate these settlement types and reveal that PLEXOS by default inaccurately allocates Day-Ahead and Real-Time revenues under two-price settlements. To overcome this limitation, I developed a novel Python-based methodology, enabling accurate modeling of two-price imbalance settlements within PLEXOS. Looking forward to discussing the market implications of renewable integration on December 16-18 in Riyadh! #SmartGrid #RenewableEnergy #EnergyTransition #SaudiArabia #SASG24 #MarketPricing #Research #Renewables #PhDLife

EWEC has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the development of the Taweelah C Independent Power Producer (IPP) project, a new carbon-capture-ready Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) plant located in the Al Taweelah Power and Desalination Complex, approximately 50 kilometres to the North East of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. As EWEC continues to drive the decarbonisation of electricity and water supply in the UAE, powering the country’s net zero transition, flexible, high-efficiency gas-fired plants will be crucial for ensuring energy security whilst the country’s energy sector transforms into a clean and renewable-focused industry. Taweelah C will primarily provide transitional capacity to support the integration of large-scale solar energy and provide additional flexibility during periods of peak power demand. Othman Al Ali, Chief Executive Officer of EWEC, said: “EWEC’s strategic planning and deployment of new technologies are catalysing a significant shift, navigating us towards a diversified and sustainable energy mix. As we lead this transformation, natural gas will be a key transition fuel to enable us to meet Abu Dhabi’s 2035 decarbonisation targets as we continue to successfully onboard new renewable capacity. Taweelah C’s efficient and carbon-capture-ready technology has an important role to play in enhancing the flexibility of our generation system and ensuring energy security. We look forward to receiving proposals from qualified companies and consortiums as we move forward with this project.” #EnergyTransition #ForASustainableFuture #YearOfSustainability #CarbonCapture
