The Queensland budget was handed down, with cost-of-living a major focus of spending. While QTIC welcomes investment in economic development and key infrastructure projects, the budget is unfortunately light on support measures for small business and tourism. It is pleasing however, to see confirmation of funding levels for Tourism and Events Queensland, increased funding for Growing Future Tourism Projects, additional funding for Bush Tourism, and release of funding for First Nations tourism. The Western Cape’s tourism industry is on fire, with a record-breaking 3.2 million visitors to attractions in the first four months of 2024! That’s an impressive 17% year-on-year growth. Plus, Cape Town International Airport saw a 13% increase in international tourists, with the UK and Germany leading the pack. This tourism surge is a golden opportunity for the Western Cape’s hospitality industry. To capitalise on this momentum, we must focus on sustainability, enhancing the traveller experience, investing in infrastructure improvements, and ensuring local communities can benefit through job creation and other economic opportunities. The Western Cape Government’s Tourism Growth Fund is a step in the right direction, offering funding to businesses for development and expansion. November is Tourism Awareness Month in #Guyana and this year’s theme: ‘A People-Centred Tourism Product: Elevating Our Profile,’ reminds me of an earlier visit to the Rupununi & Essequibo with colleagues of the Compete Caribbean Partnership Facility (CCPF). ✅ In the Rupununi, CCPF is working with local stakeholders and #MSMEs to improve their offering of #Sustainable & #Inclusive tourism experiences that can generate more revenues for the communities. Similarly, the focus in Essequibo is to increase visibility of the county to potential visitors by making the cluster more competitive. ✅ Both projects aim to assist Guyana to develop its tourism sector with strong support of CCPF’s partners – the Inter-American Development Bank, the United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office, the Caribbean Development Bank & the Government of Canada. Happy Tourism Month Guyana! 👉 Learn more about the Partnership and its projects in Guyana here: https://lnkd.in/eBCHz9uv

Rural communities often get left behind as society grows and changes, because they are so remote or isolated. The South Coast Tourism & Investment Enterprise (SCTIE) team hopes to boost tourism in these areas, creating jobs and opportunities for the community to generate income. KwaNdwalane is one of those communities, where this investment is being made. SCTIE have established two tourist experiences in the area, creating jobs for guides and opportunities for more work for surrounding restaurants, guest houses and community initiatives.
