Investing in Research & Development Capabilities. In late April, Fishermans Bend based businesses PolyNovo Limited and Arkeus, were announced as two of the ten recipients of the Victorian Government’s $15 million ‘Made in Victoria’ – R&D Infrastructure Fund. The funding will enable PolyNovo to build a world-class lab to advance product development in complex wounds skin regeneration. This includes developments in implantable products for hernia and breast reconstruction patients. Arkeus creates wide area autonomous optical search and surveillance systems for surface sensors, aircraft and drones. The funding will enable the Arkeus to establish a R&D hub to scale up their research capabilities. Investment in businesses like these strengthens Fishermans Bend’s role as a world renowned centre for innovation in advanced manufacturing, engineering & design. The Ecosystem Science and Innovation Lab’s new RIEGL terrestrial laser scanner arrived, funded by the Arizona Board of Regents and the citizens of Arizona via the Technology and Researxh Initiative Fund. This will allow us to build systems to predict wildfires, build autonomous drone systems to map ecosystems at scale and assist military personnel in forested environments, push the cutting edge of our understanding of forest-climate interactions, and more.
