A recent report sheds light on how Social Security's current system leaves gun violence survivors facing significant challenges. Here’s what you need to know: 1️⃣ "To apply, claimants must submit identity documents, employment history, and medical records, all of which involves resources that some applicants don’t have. For example, some don’t have adequate healthcare, which makes it challenging to get up-to-date medical records. Others have fallen into homelessness, making it difficult to gather the necessary paperwork." 2️⃣ "First, the survivors tend to be younger—in general, three out of five victims of nonfatal shootings are under 30. Younger applicants have a harder time getting approved for Social Security." 3️⃣ "Second, gun violence survivors often attempt to return to work after being shot, which can also hurt their applications." Share your thoughts on how we can advocate for better support systems. Let’s work together to ensure that survivors get the assistance they deserve. #GunViolenceSurvivors SocialSecurityDisability #SocialSecurityReform #Advocacy #SupportSystems

The Biden administration is urging Congress to prioritize funding for election security and presidential transition efforts, even if a government funding deal isn't reached for fiscal 2025. In an unprecedented move, the White House is also pushing for the Social Security Administration (SSA) to receive funding at the proposed $15.4 billion rate, instead of the current $14.2 billion, to ensure uninterrupted operations. "Without such an anomaly, the agency’s operations would continued to be funded at its current annual appropriation of $14.2 billion under a continuing resolution." Disney Accused of Denying Park Passes to Disabled Kids A recent report from the New York Post reveals a troubling issue: Disney is facing accusations of unfairly denying park passes to children with disabilities. These passes, which are crucial for families navigating the parks with special needs, have allegedly been restricted, leading to significant disappointment and hardship for many families. "Paula Roland, a Florida woman, said she and her husband took their 8-year-old son, Noah, to Walt Disney World in Orlando on June 5. The family sought to obtain a Disability Access Service (DAS) pass for Noah, a nonverbal autistic child who has been diagnosed with sensory processing disorder. A DAS pass would allow Noah, who struggles to stand in line for more than 15 minutes, to wait less time at the entrance to the attraction. After entering the theme park without the pass, Roland said that her son suffered from sensory overload and went into meltdown." Disney has been known for its commitment to inclusivity and magical experiences for all guests, but this situation raises serious concerns about their accessibility and fairness. Have you experienced challenges with accessibility at theme parks or other public venues? Please share your stories and let’s discuss how we can work towards ensuring that all families have the support and access they need. Tennessee’s automated Medicaid system has led to thousands of people losing their healthcare coverage. The transition to digital processing, while aimed at improving efficiency, has unfortunately resulted in many beneficiaries being erroneously removed from the rolls. "An an opinion published Monday by a U.S. District Court in Tennessee, a judge found the automated computer system used to determine eligibility for TennCare, the state’s Medicaid program, was partially to blame for thousands in the state wrongfully losing their health care coverage. The ruling, which comes in response to a class action complaint filed in 2020 against TennCare Director Stephen Smith, said TennCare’s automated and computerized Eligibility Determination System, or TEDS, failed to properly evaluate the eligibility of thousands of applicants and enrollees due to system and data issues. As a result, the program violated the Medicaid Act, the Fourteenth Amendment and the Americans with Disabilities Act, according to the 116-page opinion of U.S. District Judge Waverly Crenshaw." Healthcare coverage is vital for millions of Americans. Losing access can have serious consequences, including disrupted medical treatments and financial strain. It's essential to address these issues promptly to protect those most in need. 💬 Join the Conversation: Have you or someone you know been affected by this issue? 🔍 Tyrese Opens Up About Faking Disability as a Child In a recent interview, Tyrese Gibson shared a surprising revelation about faking a disability during his childhood. "He recounted a poignant story from his childhood where his mother allegedly had him feign a learning disability. This was reportedly to secure just under $800 from Social Security, which would help with the family’s financial needs. Despite the gravity of the situation, Tyrese humorously labeled this moment as his "first acting gig” and acknowledged that Priscilla was his “first director.” His decision was driven by a desperate need to escape challenging circumstances that his single mother faced at the time. This raw and honest confession sheds light on the extreme measures some individuals feel compelled to take when faced with overwhelming poverty. 🌟 At Unbound Disability Claims, we advocate for those who genuinely need assistance navigating the complex process of applying for Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits. We realize that families desperately need financial assistance, but we must follow the law. 💬 What are your thoughts on Tyrese’s story? Senators Tim Kaine, Tammy Duckworth, and Ed Markey are taking a stand for those suffering from long COVID by pressing the Social Security Administration (SSA) to remove barriers to disability benefits. Their recent letter to the SSA highlights a critical issue: individuals with long COVID face significant challenges when seeking Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, often due to a lack of understanding and recognition of the condition. Long COVID, also known as post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC), is a debilitating condition that can persist for months or even years after the initial COVID-19 infection. Symptoms vary widely but can include chronic fatigue, brain fog, respiratory issues, and severe neurological problems. For many, these symptoms are so severe that they are unable to work, making disability benefits essential for their financial survival. However, as the senators point out, the process of obtaining these benefits has proven to be particularly difficult for long COVID sufferers. The SSA's current system, which requires clear and objective medical evidence of disability, often fails to adequately account for the complex and fluctuating nature of long COVID. This has left many individuals in a precarious situation, unable to work but also unable to access the benefits they desperately need. The senators are urging the SSA to update its policies to better reflect the unique characteristics of long COVID. This includes providing clearer guidance to medical professionals and adjudicators on how to evaluate claims related to long COVID, ensuring that these claims are fairly assessed. The push from Senators Kaine, Duckworth, and Markey is a crucial step in addressing the gaps in support for those with long COVID. It’s a recognition that the Social Security system must evolve to meet the needs of Americans facing new and emerging health challenges. As the long-term effects of COVID-19 continue to unfold, it’s essential that our social safety nets adapt accordingly. The efforts of these senators underscore the need for a more responsive and compassionate approach to disability benefits, one that ensures all Americans, regardless of their health challenges, have the support they need to live with dignity. We just signed the petition! Please sign and share to protect legitimate dog handlers and their dogs from the individuals that pose their pet dog as a service dog to bring it on airplanes, in restaurants, and other places where pets are not allowed.
