🌍✨ Two weeks ago, I had the great honor of attending the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) COP 16 in Cali, Columbia! The conference, themed "Peace with Nature," brought together delegates from 196 countries to discuss the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). Key takeaways: ✨ Emphasis on halting and reversing biodiversity loss by 2030 ✨ Establishment of the "Cali Fund" for benefit-sharing of genetic resources ✨ Significant progress in reducing deforestation and integrating nature conservation with climate protection ✨ Greater involvement of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) The conference highlighted the vital connection between biodiversity, human well-being, and economic stability. For the #RealEstateIndustry, which contributes nearly 30% to global biodiversity loss, the message was clear: We must take responsibility and integrate biodiversity risks into our risk management frameworks and strategies. The lack of financing for necessary biodiversity protection measures poses increased risks, costs, and uncertainties for real estate projects and existing buildings. However, it also opens up opportunities for innovation, new technologies, and stronger resilience against environmental changes. As we move forward, it's essential to consider biodiversity in all aspects of real estate investments - from location assessment to tenant engagement. Let's work together to make biodiversity a priority and drive meaningful change in the #builtenvironment!
