What does this mean? It means that workplace relationships matter. Dynamics between colleagues and even more importantly between managers and direct reports, have a major impact on wellbeing, burnout rates and employee retention rates. We form emotional bonds with the people we work with. If we don’t get to do that, or if those bonds are under threat because of conflict or disconnection, then our attachment needs are not met and we can feel unsafe, untrusting, and insecure. That initiates a stress response in our brain. Bottom line = workplace relationships can be the deciding factor between thriving or just surviving at work.
