It covers topics such as the different types of green investments, policy frameworks, and how these investments are driving the energy transition. This knowledge equips me to better understand the financial and environmental impacts of renewable energy projects. Livelihood restoration starts with management commitment to do the right thing for people, while respecting their rights. It follows by understanding the key role that community-relations professionals perform everyday in the communities, without them this could not be possible. Well done JCM Power for taking this concept, making it happen and share the results. There is no magic solution for #livelihoodreestablishment. JCM has found the way to work alongside impacted people and broader community to make this happen. JCM took CIG's evidence-based approach, a people's rights centred method that encourages project developers to understand livelihoods from a wholistic lens, co-design programs with those impacted and make every effort count towards re-establishment and enhancement. It has been a great pleasure to support this team since 2020, alongside Paige Kelly. They decided to take the road-less-travelled and it is showing promising results. All the best for the next milestones and challenges to come! JCM are delighted to announce the publication of our 2022/2023 Sustainability Report. This report demonstrates how our renewable energy projects are not only contributing to the global transition towards clean energy but are also serving as catalysts for positive change within our host communities. We have improved our sustainability outcomes across a range of key focus areas; with highlights including: 💡 Self-generated electricity rose from 337,229 MWh in 2021 to 431,493 MWh in 2023. ⛽ Scope 1 emissions declined from 2,475 tCO2e in 2021 to 93 tCO2e in 2023. 🤕 We maintained our record of no lost time injuries during the reporting period. 📚 We have invested in local ESG teams and provided comprehensive training in best practice ESG. 🏠 We reimagined how we do livelihood restoration at our projects in Malawi to ensure that those affected by our projects are supported and empowered to build better futures. 🌱 Lastly, through recognizing the interconnectedness of energy and agriculture, we have made significant strides in integrating agricultural activities into our operations. 70% of the primary energy supply in the region is derived from fossil fuels, according to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). At the same time, energy markets experience high price volatility and leave many communities with underserved energy needs. And yet, countries in Latin America and the Caribbean are rich in natural resources with tremendous potential for renewable energy generation at a reasonable cost. We envision a future in which sustainable and climate-resilient communities have access to reliable, clean energy, achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7. As such, we invest in the region’s sustainable energy infrastructure through the strategic provision of capital and technical assistance to small and medium sized enterprises with unmet financing needs. We look forward to continuing to work together to meet the ambitious renewable energy commitments that have been set and drive an equitable clean energy transition that benefits everyone. Interesting article in the FT yesterday highlighting the current challenges facing the global effort to decarbonize the world economy.   Many emerging market countries rely on fossil fuel energy sources. A phase-out of fossil fuels in the absence of reliable renewable alternatives for emerging market countries for the sake of the greater good is unrealistic.
