The ReefTO Taskforce has three objectives! Today, we're highlighting the first. Honouring the decades of work by Elders to assert their cultural authority and rights to sea country and driving genuine partnerships across the Reef, ReefTO is empowering Reef Traditional Owners through the Taskforce to shape the future of the Reef and its interconnected Country. Together, we're building genuine partnerships to protect, manage and nurture the Reef for generations to come. ReefTO has three powerful priorities that we're focused on for the next 2-3 years. Our first objective is to engage with Reef Traditional Owners on options for a Sea Country Alliance (Reef-wide and regionally) and implement the preferred option. How will we do that? Stay tuned for more details about our plan to bring all Reef Traditional Owners together for an initial Sea Country Forum in March 2025! Meanwhile, are you a Reef Traditional Owner who is keen to join as a Taskforce Member? We're looking for four additional Taskforce Members - apply by 11 October 2024! I recently shared a post about "The self declared "sustainable" Norwegian cruise company @Hurtigruten is now offering free flight tickets for their net-zero cruises to Antarctica and Galapagos among other places." and I want to follow it up. I've seen many 'sustainability experts' on LinkedIn praising Hurtigruten for their CEO's self-declared commitment to sustainability. It makes me wonder whether you actually research or verify the facts before you start applauding. Not only on HX, but also on many other cases and topics. In the case of Hurtigruten, which has become well known as notorious greenwashers here in Norway, with a questionable ethical standard (such as when they, on orders from management, kept a major Covid outbreak onboard their ship secret from passengers. They were later convicted btw) or more recently with their campaign with free flights to their "sustainable" cruises to Antarctica . This has been going on for a long time, and many point out that their standards were lowered around 2012, around the same time as the new CEO Skjeldam started talking loudly about sustainability. Investigative journalists have been scrutinizing them for a while, and many things have come up. E.g while visiting their office in London. Mr. Skjeldam, refused to meet them or answer simple questions, they were asked to leave, and instead he choose other replies: Quote: "When we show up at the reception of the fashionable business building in the center of London, the internal alarm goes off. Shortly after we have left, Skjeldam calls the CEO of Amedia, the company that owns Nordlys. The Hurtigruten CEO presents accusations that Nordlys tried to sneak into the building by pretending to be Norwegian employees of Hurtigruten." The article is on Hurtigruten's journey from Norwegian ownership and open office doors to directors with fantasy salaries, billion-dollar losses and anonymous ownership via tax havens.

INNOVATION AND CIRCUMSTANCE – THE EVOLUTION OF THE SHETLAND PELAGIC FLEET The manner in how the Shetland pelagic fleet evolved to its current position of eight large vessels was the result of a combination of factors – although the one element that has not changed is that the boats remain to this day locally crewed and largely family owned. https://lnkd.in/esejTkCM

What's going on with floating solutions for marinas?! There are many destinations where boating is expanding - which often creates a requirement for floating solutions. I wanted to know how one of the leading floating equipment manufacturers identifies these to focus their expansion efforts. To find out how this is done, I sat down with Pedro Vieira during METSTRADE. Thank you for your insights Pedro, I hope you had a succesful METSTRADE finding partners for your expansion into new markets. #marinas

Shiraz to Shore Concept Plan launches today! 🚴♂️ 🍇 🏄♀️ The Hunter Region is poised to become a premier destination for cycle tourism with the proposed Shiraz to Shore, a 100km cycle trail connecting the picturesque Wine Country of the Hunter Valley to the breathtaking coastal beaches of Newcastle and Lake Macquarie. The trail includes the critical connector and much beloved Richmond Vale Rail Trail with its historic brick lined tunnels. Designed not only as a magnet for tourists but also as a sustainable transport link, this trail promises to be a beacon of regional connectivity and natural beauty. The expected benefits from the trail will: ✔ Support over 237,000 users per year in achieving an active lifestyle with health benefits. ✔ Stimulate business growth opportunities and over 200 ongoing jobs for local people. With support from NSW Government, we’ve worked with City of Newcastle, Australia, Cessnock City Council, Singleton Council and Lake Macquarie City Council to develop the preferred alignment for the trail, and financial modelling through a Business Case. We also developed a Hunter Cycle Tourism Strategy to identify actions for the region to take to attract cycle tourists, who stay longer and spend more in region, which means more jobs for local people.
