The Kroger Co Zero Hunger Zero Waste Foundation is Kroger's nonprofit public charity that supports other nonprofit organizations, social entrepreneurs and creative thinkers who are focused on improving food security, ending food waste and more. The foundation looks for mission-aligned organizations interested in advancing greater positive impacts together – because we know we can’t do it alone. This past summer, I had the opportunity to follow three grant recipients and highlight the great work they’re doing in our communities: WasteLess Solutions (Salt Lake City, UT), LifeCare Alliance (Columbus, OH), and YMCA of Virginia's Blue Ridge (Roanoke, VA). We’re proud of the work they’re doing to not only help our neighbors, but invest in families and future generations. Check out our latest episodes of the This is Zero Hunger | Zero Waste docuseries, developed to drive awareness of Kroger’s commitment to its local communities and shine a light on these amazing organizations! · Turning High-quality, Surplus Food into Fresh Meals 🌽🍇 (WasteLess Solutions): https://lnkd.in/gjBg2SBd · Delivering Meals & Improving Seniors’ Quality of Life 🚐 🏠️ (LifeCare Alliance): https://lnkd.in/giDy_wyX · Inspiring Children to Garden & Cook 🥔🍽️ (YMCA of Virginia’s Blue Ridge): https://lnkd.in/gwZrkd8m You can help hundreds of organizations like the ones above by simply rounding up your purchases at checkout. Our food system is both contributing to and suffering from climate change. We are largely dependent on large-scale agricultural system for our global food supply. Food forests are a great alternative. They produce a range of crops, contribute to local ecosystem health, and are amazing natural classrooms for people of all ages. #climateaction #urbanfarming #climatechange #foodsecurity #foodforests #localagriculture https://lnkd.in/gAtbzG3k

About Partnership and funding opportunities to undertake climate change mitigation, hunger and poverty alleviation and also promoting biodiversity protection working with smallholder farmers in rural communities. Smallholder farmers in rural communities in third world countries have been fighting climate vulnerabilities for centuries. It is now true that climate change has many negative effects(impacts) on them and their farming activities. These include but not limited to the following: 1. Extreme weather: Smallholder farmers are more directly affected by extreme weather events like droughts, floods and storms 2. Crop yield reduction: Climate change reduce due to higher temperatures, changing rainfall patterns droughts and floods 3. Food insecurity: Lower crop yields can lead to food insecurity, which can worsen malnutrition and hunger 4. Income loss and poverty: Lower agricultural out put can increase poverty levels and economic vulnerability. 5. Decreased livestock productivity: Higher temperature changes forage availability and water scarcity can make livestock prone to diseases and death 6. Coastal erosion: Rising sea levels can cause coastal erosion. 7. Soil salinization: Climate-induced Sea level rise can lead to soil salinization. These shows clearly that, smallholder farmers are highly vulnerable to climate change phenomena because they have few or no assets to fall back on and limited ability to recover from climate extremes. They also lack access to the education, skills, technology, markets, finances and social protection systems to withstand the climate shocks. In all our conversations on climate change, we have found out that adaptation is very relevant to many smallholder farmers in third world countries that are suffering the most from climate change impact. It is evident that smallholder farmers are very important in the agricultural systems of Sierra Leone, since they form the backbone to the country’s economy. However, their activities are threatened by climate related risks increasing their vulnerability.

The power to shape a better world is unfolding before us. Here’s one way to make an immediate impact: channel your annual donations to an organization that is changing the world as you read this. Let’s invest in the future we believe in. Together, we are unstoppable. Be the change. Fuel the change.
This giving season we’re asking you to make a Donation That’s Different. Currently, only 1% of climate finance reaches Rainforest Communities, among those most affected by climate change. This has to change! Join us in seeding that change by bridging global resources to rainforest communities, whose climate solutions have proven results for Planetary Health. Our planet’s future rests in the hands of the next generation, and today, we took a powerful step towards equipping them with the tools to protect it. Yesterday at our Genius Unleashed Bootcamp, we were deeply moved by the incredible session led by Sela M. of GreenBotswana Trust and Yodit Molosi née Getachew Kassaye of Maleda Advisory Services. They educated our young learners about climate change and inspired them to become active guardians of Mother Earth. The trees they donated, the vegetables they provided, and the knowledge they shared are gifts that will keep growing, just like the impact these children will have on our planet. Each child planted a tree or vegetable and took it home, ensuring that the seeds of change continue to flourish in their communities. Sela and Yodit, your dedication and passion have planted more than just trees; you've sown the seeds of hope, responsibility, and action in the hearts of our youth. We are profoundly grateful for your support and commitment to this vital cause. To our community: How are you contributing to the fight against climate change? What legacy will you leave for the next generation? Follow Ms Kim for daily inspiration and insights! #ClimateAction #FutureLeaders #EnvironmentalStewardship #GeniusUnleashed #SustainabilityMatters
