🚀 Broadening Horizons in Research and Innovation 🌍 The European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation event, hosted within the HU24EU Presidency at the Council of the EU, provided an excellent platform to discuss increasing participation and broadening horizons in European research and innovation. 🎤 I was honored to join the panel discussion on "The role of excellent research support in improving participation in FPs – the practitioners’ perspective." Together, we explored key points: ✅ Research management and administration (RMA) in institutions and national ecosystems are critical investments. ✅ There’s no excellent research or innovation without excellent research management support. ✅ The exchange of best practices among RMAs is crucial to addressing gaps across Europe. ✅ Joining EARMA is a valuable step to foster collaboration and drive progress. 💡 Thank you, Virág Zsár and Ágota Dávid, for spotlighting this vital topic within the Hungarian Presidency discussions, and a big thank you to my fellow panelists for such a productive and inspiring session Massimo Busuoli Dirk De Craemer Petra Horvat Florence Ranson. Let’s continue working towards a more inclusive and innovative European research landscape! It was a pleasure to present project Human Centric Preference-based Optimization www.hcpbo.eu at Gaia - X Summit 2024 in Helsinki. The HCPbO project addresses the challenges of optimizing industrial processes by using preference-based optimization algorithms that leverage expert operators' knowledge. This programming-free approach allows operators to intuitively transfer their expertise to machines. The system assists in optimization by offering suggestions based on experiments conducted by experts, and an enhanced version of the algorithm will integrate both qualitative and quantitative capabilities. These algorithms are tested in two relevant use cases to maximize flexibility and performance. Members of consortium are Reply, TEC Eurolab - Testing | Certificazione | Formazione, SmartZavod, University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland, Gaia-X Hub Slovakia The project is co-funded by European Union #SmartManufacturing #HumanMachineCollab #InnovationInIndustry #eit #eitmanufacturing #eu #datadrivenmanufacturing

💡 "For public science funding agencies to be relevant, they need to adapt to the pace of current scientific and technological development, and not to the pace of the public sector." 💡 That’s just one of the insights from Flavio Caiafa, the director of Uruguay’s National Agency for Research and Innovation, a key partner for us in the work we support in strengthening science systems in the global south. It's a great read that sheds light on the important role of regional collaboration and networking in this space. #innovation #partnership #STEM Please read and share this Q&A https://bit.ly/3TXOq9A ANII

A great day for research today! I am happy to attend the official presentation of the expert group report to commissioner Ivanova. As Manuel Heitor, chair of the expert group puts it, we need a strong framework program, a strong budget and a radical innovation. Main take home messages: 1. a strong framework program We should go away from silos towards interconnected spheres of action We need to install new councils building on the unparalleled success of the ERC We need an experimental unit to assess innovative ways of funding 2. a strong budget We need 220 billion euros We need to mobilise other schemes to fund excellent proposals that cannot be funded by the framework program 3. radical simplification and radical innovation We should advocate for radical innovation and advanced granular collaboration especially with China and the USA Europe needs to better understand innovation procurement both at the national and at the European level You can read the report here: https://lnkd.in/ekfWpCtF #research #innovation #fp10
