At least 90% of the finance Africa needs to achieve water security and sustainable sanitation by 2030 can be accessed from domestic resources by improving the enabling environment for investments, better water governance, higher budget allocations, the efficient delivery of water services, and others. Less than 10% needs to be sourced from international funds. A water-secure Africa is within the power of African leaders. The pyramid of transformation from Africa's Rising Water Investment Tide report https://lnkd.in/d8M7Xrwx shows potential sources of finance for an additional US$30bn per year by 2030. #sdg6 #africa #watersecurity #waterinvestments

As the #watercrisis is increasingly becoming prevalent in Africa with more people living without access to #cleanwater and #sanitation, there is need for stakeholders in the water sector to put their heads together to address this crisis. Africa risks to miss the #UNGlobal target of SDG 6 by 2030 if stakeholders do not collaborate to fast track these efforts. Financing of water related activities still suffers from a huge shortfall despite private sector involvement to complement governments' efforts. In two weeks' time, the Lagos International Water Conference (LIWAC) kicks off at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, Nigeria. Join the KIFFWA - Kenya Innovative Finance Facility for Water CEO Erik Labee who will be a keynote speaker at the conference. #waterfinancing #acceleratingsdg6 #waterforall #waterhasnoboundaries Funke Adepoju

The Constitution of South Africa has placed a legal obligation on the government to realise people’s right to sufficient water. In order to do this, South Africa has developed policies, strategies and institutions to manage water resources and deliver water services to people through local government structures. Although access to water has been included in our Bill of Rights, few people working with water-related issues understand the implications of a human rights approach to water, while those with a right to water also do not fully comprehend what is meant, particularly the most vulnerable and poor members of the South African community.

Well done Thabo Rakoloti- As a professional in the water and sanitation sector, I believe it is crucial to invest in providing access to clean water for South Africa's poorest communities. Access to safe, reliable water is a fundamental human right, yet millions of people around the globe lack this basic necessity. Lack of clean water not only impacts health and hygiene, but also hinders economic and social development in impoverished regions. Investing in water infrastructure, treatment systems, and community-based water projects can have a transformative impact. It improves public health, reduces the burden on women and children who often walk miles to collect water, and enables communities to thrive. As professionals, we have a responsibility to advocate for increased funding, innovative solutions, and collaborative efforts to ensure everyone has access to this life-sustaining resource.
Exciting news from #NDBAnnualMeeting! In a timely announcement coinciding with the #WorldWaterWeek, NDB has approved a loan of up to USD 1 billion to the Republic of South Africa to finance essential water and sanitation projects. This has been done under the Municipal Infrastructure Grant of the Government of South Africa, a conditional grant allocated to non-metropolitan municipalities to reduce infrastructure backlogs and ensure the provision of basic services to poor households. Did You Know? #DYK In 2022, about 12% of total households in South Africa did not have access to piped water and about 17% did not have access to improved sanitation services. Government of South Africa's National Water and Sanitation Master Plan 2030 estimates that the water supply and sanitation sector will require an investment of ZAR 90 billion per annum. Through this financing, NDB is playing a crucial role in addressing pressing infrastructure challenges and investing in a sustainable future - the theme of #NDBAM24.
