As we approach 2025, the findings from the RS Group plc 2024 Maintenance Engineering Report provide valuable insight into the challenges facing the manufacturing sector: ◽ Over 40% of manufacturers still rely on 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒈𝒊𝒆𝒔, despite the proven benefits of preventative approaches. ◽ The adoption of CMMS technologies 𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒔 𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒑𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒍𝒚 𝒍𝒐𝒘, even as maintenance data becomes critical to operational success. ◽ 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐬 continue to hinder organisations from embedding proactive maintenance strategies. 𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘: To achieve reliability and resilience in maintenance engineering, we recommend structured approaches such as 𝑴𝒐𝒅𝒆𝒍 𝑨𝒓𝒆𝒂 𝑫𝒆𝒑𝒍𝒐𝒚𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 and 𝐓𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 (𝐓𝐏𝐌). These methods help organisations move beyond reactive maintenance, enabling them to address root causes and deliver sustainable, measurable outcomes. However, despite our perspective on this, the question remains: 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒑𝒔 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒐𝒓𝒈𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒔𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒂𝒅𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒔𝒆 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒅𝒓𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈-𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒎 𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆? We welcome you to share your perspectives, propose alternative approaches, or even challenge our recommendations. Your insights and ideas are invaluable in shaping the dialogue around these critical topics. #MaintenanceEngineering #ManufacturingStrategy #ProactiveMaintenance #OperationalExcellence #EngineeringLeadership #IndustryInsights #TotalProductiveMaintenance #FutureOfManufacturing #PreventativeMaintenance

Mechanical Joint Integrity: The state of the Nation Building on the success of the IMechE bolted joint seminar in Newcastle earlier this year (Bolted Joints – End to End Lifecycle), I recently hosted an online technical webinar on behalf of IMechE Process Industries Division. This webinar addressed the pressing issues of competency and compliance facing the UK's process industries. The event attracted participants from diverse sectors, including asset owners, training providers, OEMs, government bodies, mechanical contractor companies, academia, and various institutions. While addressing the mechanical skills gap, a significant paradox emerged: Despite strict regulation at COMAH sites, accessible industry standards and guidelines for mechanical joint integrity, and recognised competency-based training courses, non-conformances and defects in bolted joint assemblies persist. During the webinar, I presented statistics, data, and photographic evidence to examine these issues and discuss the 'route to competence.' The skills gap and labour shortage remain critical challenges across all our industry sectors. Following the webinar, we've received overwhelmingly positive feedback and support, affirming this will be the first of many webinars on this crucial, yet often overlooked topic. For those who missed it, the full recorded webinar is available on the Institution of Mechanical Engineers YouTube channel: https://lnkd.in/e-ryqHSv I'm very excited to continue this important discussion in future webinars and I'm looking forward to a more wide reaching collaborative approach in addressing the issues from all areas of our industry. #webinar #learning #sharing #data #collaboration #jointintegrity #skillsgap #competency #regulatorycompliance #industry #guidelines #bestpractice #chemicalindustry #petrochemicalindustry #oilandgasindustry #nuclearindustry #processindustries #attitude #culture #humanfactors #compliance #mechanical #engineering #craft #craftsperson #tradesperson #engineers #bulkstorage #storageterminals #comah #seveso #bhopal #lopc #badpractice #statistics #energyinstitute #icheme #imeche
