With a wide reach, it aims to address inclusive safe public places protecting cultural heritage, urban planning and green spaces disaster resilience and reducing environmental impact.   Happily, the merger of science, creative thinking and collaboration with partners can help Scotland’s International Environment Centre play a role in realising most of these ambitions. Our starting points are the Forth-ERA digital twin with multiple environmental indicators and the Forth Climate Forest and, perhaps most usefully, our relationships with equally motivated partners.   Please pull up a seat. Fostering Sustainable Development through Senior Leadership, Management, and Organizational Excellence In today’s complex global landscape, the concept of sustainable development has become a central guiding principle for fostering economic growth, environmental conservation, and social well-being. It is a holistic approach that ensures the needs of the present are met without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Central to achieving this vision is the role of senior leadership, senior management, and robust organizational structures. These entities collectively shape the strategies, culture, and operations of institutions, playing a pivotal role in driving sustainable development.On September 25, 2015, all 193 member countries of the United Nations (UN) adopted a set of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) designed to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new global “Agenda 2030” (United Nations, 2015). Building on the earlier UN Millennium Development Goals and seeking to complete what had been left undone, this new agenda for sustainable development laid out a bold ambition: “We are resolved to free the human race from the tyranny of poverty … and to heal and secure our planet. We are determined to take the bold and transformative steps which are urgently needed to shift the world on to a sustainable and resilient path. As we embark on this collective journey, we pledge that no one will be left behind.” (United Nations, 2015: 1)

In honour of #GlobalRecyclingDay (18 March), our #ICCSydney team is proud to champion of sustainability – particularly in promoting sustainable means of gathering, an important trend identified in our RESPECT: Shaping Events for Success report delivered with McCrindle. Here’s a snapshot of the key findings related to this trend.   From empowering clients to deliver sustainable events through the Environmental Sustainability stream in our industry leading Legacy Program to proudly participating in global initiatives like the #NetZeroCarbonEvents Pledge, ICC Sydney remains committed to reducing the environmental impact of our operations while also fostering community engagement and economic development.   The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists #ANZCA Annual Scientific Meeting featured sustainable and inclusive initiatives, like carbon friendly catering, biodegradable lanyards, dedicated recycling stations, digital signage and refillable water stations. USGBC Announces 2024 LEED for Cities Leadership Program Cohort Partnership with Bank of America Supports Achievement of Local Government Sustainability Goals with LEED for Cities "2024 cohort of 12 cities selected to participate in its LEED for Cities Local Government Leadership Program. The program helps local governments set goals, collect data, and validate performance against sustainability and quality of life metrics using the LEED for Cities rating system, revolutionizing the way cities and communities are planned, developed, and operated to improve their overall sustainability and quality of life." The 2024 cohort of cities represents a combined population of nearly five million people. The cities are: Boca Raton, Florida Carrollton, Texas Coral Springs, Florida El Paso, Texas Gainesville, Florida Gary, Indiana Jacksonville, Florida La Crosse, Wisconsin New Orleans, Louisiana Overland Park, Kansas Philadelphia, Pennsylvania St. Petersburg, Florida "In addition to the national leadership cohort, the Local Government Leadership Program includes regional leadership summits intended to deepen engagement with local governments on a range of green building and sustainable development topics. Yesterday was World Environment Day, so it seems fitting that we highlight our next 2023 Real Impact Award winners who are tackling the pressing challenges of the global climate crisis and driving real impact. The team behind the UQ Low Harm Hedonism Initiative at The University of Queensland and WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business) are harnessing their research to take pragmatic steps in reducing the environmental impact caused by tourism. By applying theory with practice and measuring performance in real-time, the initiative has made significant and immediate strides in reducing excessive waste and energy consumption. In helping tourism businesses to operate in more environmentally sustainable ways, their impressive efforts clearly align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 12; Sustainable Consumption and Production).
