When building a community in Web3 (applies to non-web3 communities as well) it's crucial to recognize four distinct personas you will come across in your community building journey - 1) Lurker: Observes without participating. 2) Active Audience: Engages with likes and comments. 3) Community Member: Actively participates. 4) Community Ambassador: Represents the community. Now, let's say you have 500 members in a community; one can't expect all of the 500 members to actively talk, participate and engage in the community in the same capacity everyday since a community consists of these four personas. Out of 500 members, 200 members may come under the category of 'lurker', 150 members may come under the category of 'active audience', 100 members may come under the category of 'community member' & 50 members may come under the category of 'community ambassadors'. It is crucial to understand that each persona plays their role in a community, the trick is to move the wheel forward. i.e. converting a lurker into an active audience and an active audience to a community member. Ignoring community feedback is why your Web3 project is failing. You don’t know what others want, or how they think, so ASK. Put your pride away and build like you mean it. • Engage forums on the daily • Run surveys within discord • Host AMAs on a weekly basis • Act immediately on suggestions Active engagement leads to better solutions -> Better solutions leads to more users -> More users lead to more $.

Fellow Open Source Community Organizers: What are the best communication methods for your community that you have experimented with and what sort of numbers have you used to track your success? There are plenty of anecdotes out there like "Discord has the least amount of friction", but I'm curious whether anyone has tracked the success of Platform 1 vs Platform 2 and came to any interesting conclusions. If you have, I'd love to hear them! #opensource #community #opensourcecommunity

Do you know what's important to have in mind when building a Community? It's not all about the numbers! This explains why some community channels have 10k members. Yet, the interaction there is way too low. Like, embarrassingly low! It also plays out in situations where too many "community members" do not make a fairly decent effort to stay up-to-date with the things happening in the Community. If the idea is to truly build a Community, "10k community members" wouldn't be enough stats to tell a wholesome story. This applies in Web3 and beyond.

In web3 or for that matter in web2 as well, if the product is still under development, the question comes what should you market then? The real product you need to market is the "COMMUNITY". Focus on building a loyal following. Market the vision, values & people behind the projet, that's where the real magic happens.
