Any „worker exploitation claims” are always extremely serious HR issues which automatically become a subject of thorough investigation. The case of some companies within Armani and Dior Groups which were accused of providing unlawful work conditions to their employees (too low than legally required salaries and long work hours) overwhelms due to various reasons. The case also raises many questions related to work ethics in a culturally diversified setting, integrity, transparency in complex (multicultural) organisations. A supply chain architecture and design within multicultural companies, in particular, require standard processes and practices to be observed. I have many surprises with this case: the companies involved, Italy as a country in concern (known for strict employee related regulations), the type of claims submitted. I hope the investigation will help to understand the actual circumstances and ensure that the law will continue to be respected. https://lnkd.in/ebaqFwqR

STAFF AT SHEIN SUPPLIERS IN CHINA WORKING 75-HOUR WEEKS: Employees at some SHEIN supplier factories in China are working 75-hour weeks - despite claims to the contrary. This is according to a report by Swiss advocacy group Public Eye. The report follows a 2021 investigation which revealed excessive overtime at six Shein factories in Guangzhou, the company's key sourcing hub. Ironically, the report arrives in a week that rumours of a Shein public listing on the London Stock Exchange have intensified - with some commentators it could even happen this month (which seems unlikely). The latest findings from Public Eye, based on interviews with 13 workers from six factories, indicate that long hours and other evidence of poor working conditions remain prevalent among Shein’s workforce. In response, Shein told the BBC it has made “significant progress” in improving conditions and is actively working to address these issues. In early 2023, Shein commissioned 3 international audit agencies, TUV Rheinland, SGS and Intertek, to conduct a salary investigation across its suppliers’ facilities in South China. Corporate greed in luxury brands. Luxury brands should know exactly where their products are being made but many do not and deny responsibility. The reason is simple to keep costs down and profits up. Most luxury brands make huge profits, so they can afford to pay reasonable salaries.
Armani under investigation for allegedly exploiting workers. The Milan public prosecutors' office has for years been investigating the outsourcing of production by large groups in the fashion and other industries to subcontractors who allegedly exploit workers. Other luxury Italian companies have been paying 1 Euro an hour for Italian home workers according to the NYT. https://lnkd.in/e3_XiQHd

Garment workers are the backbone of the fashion industry but often face unsafe working conditions, wage theft, and inadequate protections. The Fashioning Accountability and Building Real Institutional Change (FABRIC) Act is a groundbreaking piece of legislation that seeks to change this by ensuring fair wages, safer workplaces, and revitalizing domestic manufacturing. The FABRIC Act represents a historic opportunity to transform the US garment industry by ensuring safer working conditions and revitalizing domestic manufacturing. Introduced by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Representative Carolyn Maloney, this Act aims to protect nearly 100,000 American garment workers and breathe new life into our $9 billion apparel sector. Here’s how the FABRIC Act will make a difference: 🪡 Enforces Minimum Wage Standards: Ends wage theft and ensures fair pay. 🪡 Combats Factory Violations: Introduces stronger workplace protections. 🪡 Increases Transparency: Holds brands accountable for their practices. 🪡 Revitalizes Domestic Manufacturing: Supports with a multi-million dollar grant program. 💡 👔 Did you know that the uniforms staff wear can influence how customers perceive their service experience? A research on uniforms from Rob Smith of Tilburg University was mentioned in an article in The Economist. The research shows customers are more likely to blame companies, not individuals, for bad service when staff wear uniforms. When participants imagined receiving poor service while picking up a pizza 🍕, their perceptions shifted based on whether the employee was in uniform or not. If corporate clothing makes each worker seem more representative of their employers, the authors suggest that it may be a good idea not to give it to unexperienced workers. Levi’s has long marketed itself as a champion of workers' rights and ethical production. But recent events at its Turkish supplier, Ozak Tekstil, tell a different story. 💔 400 workers fired for unionizing and striking over poor pay and conditions. ❌ Levi’s own code of conduct blatantly ignored. 🕒 Workers subjected to illegal, excessive overtime and abusive management. 🔒 Fired workers blacklisted, struggling to find new jobs. Levi's claims to "stand up for what’s right," yet continues to do business with a supplier that has shown blatant disregard for these values. Is it really about protecting jobs, or just maintaining cheap and efficient production at any cost? It's time for Levi’s to choose: uphold your ethical promises or admit they are just a façade. #WorkersRights #CorporateResponsibility #LaborRights What do you think? Should Levi’s cut ties with unethical suppliers even if it means disrupting their supply chain? Or is their current stance justified in an effort to protect jobs?

So, while Inditex's stock prices are hitting the roof, the patience of their employees in Spain is running really thin. It's like a wake-up call for all retail businesses that it's high time to find a sweet spot between making shareholders happy and keeping the team motivated. Retail work isn't a walk in the park, and it's clear we need some fresh ideas to make things fair and fun for everyone involved. Retail associates are super important – they're the ones who make the magic happen with customers and products, making the whole company shine. So, it's kind of baffling why there's such a big gap between the profits the company is making and the rewards the employees are getting, right? Zara's team is asking for more hours for part-time staff and some guaranteed weekends off each year. Plus, the UGT union is pushing for bonuses for folks who've been around for four years. This comes right after Inditex announced they made a whopping 23.5 percent more in net income in 2023, and they're already looking at a bright 2024. This huge success story is making everyone wonder why there's still such a mismatch when it comes to treating their employees right. The strike is really a loud shout for Inditex to step up and fix things fast. It's not just about Zara; it's a big nudge for all retailers to get their act together and make work a better place for everyone. Let's get moving towards a more fair and friendly workplace! #FashionTech #AI #FairPlay #AffiliateMarketing https://lnkd.in/eKRq-zqs
