[Sebijak Insight] Nusantara: Green Dream or Climate Nightmare? 🎯 Presiden Joko Widodo announced #Nusantara, a new capital in East Kalimantan designde as a sustainable #ForestCity. The project aims to address climate and urban challenges while symbolizing #theunity of Indonesia as an archipelago. 🌍 Nusantara is said a to be a portrait of a city that paves the way for a #greener and more #sustainable economic development bridge. 🚨 However, the project is located in the #heart of frontier extraction, a region rife with unremediated and unregulated coal mines, oil and gas infrastructure, and changing landscapes. 🔎 Nusantara can potentially impact environmental damage such as floods, landslides, fires, and droughts. It could also increase Indonesia's carbon footprint in the future due to extensive air travel. 💡 The project also have probabilty to impacts social injustice stemming from the deprivation of indigenous peoples rights. Therefore, it needs more in-depth attention, planning and intervention.
