As a part of SecondMuse Capital's advisory services, funded by the Walton Family Foundation, we explored what collaboration can look like for philanthropic partnering at scale in the future of education, learning and school in the United States. There is no doubt that the education system is complex with a diversity and divergence of educational approaches, models, and values while it strives to cater to the holistic needs of young individuals. We asked questions such as what constitutes a partnership, what initiatives are ripe of partnering, and how do we do this at scale? While there are challenges, we believe that they are not insurmountable and have identified two tools that can facilitate the process. We invite you to explore our white paper on the intricate dynamics of philanthropic collaboration within education and share your insights. I love this👇🏽 “Philanthropy and Power If philanthropy is going to play a constructive role in creating a more just and equitable world, foundations and donors need to be accountable for the power they hold, creative in how they share it, and ultimately bold in handing it over to the communities they serve.” How to use integrated capital to invest in communities in ways that ensure that more value stays in the community? #Innovate

Revisiting my Ma Philanthropic Studies dissertation on reform in grant making trusts and foundations. Reminded that it really reflects the current challenges being explored in the trust funding landscape right now, in particular finding the balance between needing to take time and space to explore what meaningful, deep and effective change in practice might look like against the urgency of the challenges our communities are facing and current trust fundraising models. Wondering how we make space for both - being able to respond to the immediate and urgent needs our communities face yet acknowledge that time might be needed to think, develop and build more effective and equitable practices in grant making.

How do philanthropic organizations use the data we produce? The data that comes from our evaluations help philanthropic organizations and their grantees to cultivate conversations with boards of directors, the broader community, and each other. Once prepared with concrete data points, we provide them with the tools they need to tell their stories and demonstrate their impact within their communities. For example, we recently worked with Allegany Franciscan Ministries and its Board of Directors to evaluate their impact and inform future organizational priorities, processes, and initiatives. This impact evaluation allowed the organization to reflect and use data and wisdom gained to inform new funding opportunities. #BSRI #DataForAction #Evaluation #Philanthropy
