A delegation from the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), led by Chairman Mr. Vicky Shaw, recently met with Chief Secretary Shri Atal Dulloo, IAS, in a constructive dialogue aimed at addressing critical developmental issues in the region. The meeting was attended by Co-Chair Himayu Wani, Sajad Ahamd Shah Convenor Handicrafts and Iqbal Fayaz Jan deputy director The discussions centered around key topics such as public-private partnerships, the expansion of the IT sector, the waste-to-energy project, tourism registrations, and the proposed Kashmir International Trade Expo (KITEX). During the meeting, the PHDCCI delegation underscored the necessity of collaborative efforts to enhance infrastructure and create diverse opportunities across various sectors. The Chief Secretary attentively considered the delegation’s recommendations and insights, recognizing the vital role these initiatives play in fostering economic growth for the region. After 3 days in Marrakech, here are my main takeaways from GITEX 👉 🚀 A diversifying and booming economy: Morocco's economy is mainly based on fishing, agriculture and tourism. Local entrepreneurs are particularly innovative in these sectors. Technologies related to energy, water, health and finance were also strongly represented. PayLiK, Gwala, FOODEALS, Disklosure, Data for Sustainable Society, Colis.ma (Baobab 2023)... 🎓 Academic excellence: The country nurtures a remarkable level of academic excellence, especially thanks to UM6P - Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, which trains top-level engineers and entrepreneurs. 📝 Professionalization of key players:  Just like the excellent organization of gitex, the Moroccan entrepreneurial eco-system has become more structured in recent years, with organizations such as Plug and Play Tech Center, 212 Founders, MCISE, Bidaya_Incubateur, Enactus Morocco, UM6P Ventures, Endeavor Morocco... 🍵 The art of living: Moroccans are masters in the art of occupying space and enjoying tea: an ideal moment to relax in the shade of trees in parks or on the terraces of cafes, sheltered from the sun. #Tech #Entrepreneurs #GITEX #MENA #GCC

In just a few weeks, the second annual Transforming African MedTech Conference (TAMC) will take place in Nairobi, Kenya. From August 28th to 30th, stakeholders in the medical technology industry will come together to share perspectives and resources in order to advance the #medtech ecosystem in Africa. The Lemelson Foundation is proud to sponsor TAMC 2024 and support the power of invention and innovation to shape the future of healthcare technology on the continent. The conference was created by Foundation grantees and partners Villgro Africa and Jaza Rift in collaboration with Rice360 Institute for Global Health Technologies, Kenyatta University, Ifakara Innovation Hub, and PDP Forum. 🌍 Today, the Diabetes Alliance had the privilege of attending a Joint Session at DIA EGYPT 2024 virtually, where Siyabonga Kwanele Zuma and I presented on "Inclusive Patient-Centred Diabetes Care: Amplifying the Voice of People with Diabetes in Decision-Making". We discussed how critical it is to shift from a provider-led approach to one that empowers people living with diabetes to actively participate in their care. Some key points from our presentation included: 🔹 The need to involve patients in decision-making, ensuring their preferences, values, and goals are respected. 🔹 How shared decision-making and patient education can improve treatment adherence and long-term outcomes. 🔹 Real-life examples of inclusive care models, including our work at the University Of Pretoria Diabetes Research Centre, where we supported patients with type 2 diabetes to start and titrate their insulin effectively through tailored education and support. 🔹 The importance of integrating patient advocacy at all levels, from clinical care to policy development.
