🌍 Reflecting on the 23rd Annual International Conference of the Chartered Risk Management Institute of Nigeria 🌍 Happy New Month my LinkedIn Community 👋! Last week, I attended the 23rd Annual International Conference of the Chartered Risk Management Institute of Nigeria. This year's conference theme was "Emerging Crisis in Africa: Way Forward," a topic that is particularly relevant in light of today's global challenges. Africa's most significant risks are; increasing political tensions, climate changes, pandemics, food crises, cybersecurity challenges, shifts in cultural values, and the impact of technology and AI. The conference was a very insightful convergence of leaders, risk management professionals, and policymakers across Africa who shared strategies for navigating these issues effectively. Highlights of the Event: 📍 Keynote Sessions: The distinguished speakers shared their expertise on crisis management, offering perspectives on proactive risk assessment and mitigation strategies tailored to Africa’s unique challenges. 📍Panel Discussions: The panels provided a deep dive into specific areas such as managing security risk, environmental, social & governance, and optimizing innovative approaches to risk management, including the use of data analytics and AI in predicting and managing risks. I particularly enjoyed the panel sessions that talked about risk management in the fintech frontiers and the value proposition of ESG management. It was indeed nice to to connect with fellow professionals committed to making a positive impact in risk management and to witness the signing of the MOU for the establishment of the Federation of African Risk Management Association ( FARMA). Overall, the conference addressed the critical role that risk management plays in shaping the future of Africa. His session, aptly titled “Now What,” delved into the top 12 risks identified in the annual risk report and provided actionable insights for Chief Risk Officers (CROs) to consider at an organisational level.
