Women-led startups are chronically under-supported and under-represented, especially within the #climatetech sector. Elbow Beach was pleased to attend the Village Capital Greentech Community Event. Greentech Europe is an accelerator programme supporting women-led #greentech innovation in Europe with proven success: entrepreneurs that graduate from the programme raise over 3x more capital, earn over 2.7x more revenue and create over 40% more jobs. Despite the important achievements of this programme, there is still a low supply of female-founded businesses in climate tech hardware, largely due to the long-standing gender disparity in STEM fields. It was great to be in a room full of exceptional female founders, including Goulnara AGUIAR from ORMEX, Ana Rachel Estrougo from The Octopus Club, and Sarah-Marie Rust from EVE. Elbow Beach Capital is a signatory of Investing in Women and as part of our commitment we seek to ensure we are exposing ourselves to diverse deal flow. #VentureCapital #StartUps #WomenInTech

I was curious when my long-standing colleague and friend, Anja Cavigilli, (a jury member of the female innovation awards), invited me to join her, as a guest, to attend the 7th edition of the #femaleinnovationforum #FIF24. The atmosphere was buzzing with, nervous-tinged #startup and savvy-established #entrepreneurial, energy, enthusiasm and excitement ... What struck me was the fascinating mix and mingling together of true #diversity and #inclusiveness in every sense ... and, how effectively this #collective, #interactive, #groupthink was being #harnessed to #troubleshoot and tackle in workshops, the #challengesofchoice for 5 shortlisted female startup candidates! #yeswecan #strongertogether "#DontQuitKeepGoing" #LarisaBMiller "#BeatExpectations" Sandra-Stella Triebl #LadiesDrive #WalktheTalk p.s.: Here is what I subsequently learnt: - In 2023, women-led startups [in Switzerland] saw a record year with 37 companies securing capital, compared to 36 in 2022. (source: startupticker) - The amount of capital raised by female-led ventures [in Switzerland] increased by 44%, from CHF 125 million in 2022 to CHF 179.74 million in 2023. The latter represents only 6.9% of the total venture capital invested in Swiss startups in 2023. (source: startupticker) : Only 2% of Swiss startups are founded exclusively by women, but 22% of the funded companies had at least one female founder. (source: EY, startupticker) : Life sciences and healthcare continue to attract the majority of the investments in female-led ventures, and reflect the strength of women entrepreneurs in these sectors. Women founders are often seen as prioritizing community problem-solving, which leads them to create impact startups—a popular opinion that multiple research supports. While there is still a significant gap in the number of women-led startups, women are more focused on making a difference, not ✨just✨ making money. Notice the “just” highlighted with stardust? That’s because the profitability and success are there, but it’s often overlooked by investors. Check the gallery to see what we mean. P.S. Dear founders and VCs, please help us raise a discussion in this post! We are interested in YOUR opinion on this topic. 👇 😎Possible solution Let's create infrastructure for impact startups together!
