Yesterday, SIBS' participation in the Web Summit Lisbon was marked by a big announcement: the launch of EuroPA - European Payments Alliance with the first international #MBWAY transfer! 📲🌍 Mobile payments are becoming an integral part of Europeans' daily lives. To facilitate this, SIBS united #MBWAY, #BancomatPay, and #Bizum to enable service interoperability, simplifying instant payments between the three countries. This launch is the first step towards interoperability for over 45 million users and 182 financial institutions. As founding member of European Card Payment Association (ECPA), SIBS was proud to support the 7th International Conference of Regional Card Schemes & Retail Financial Market Infrastructures organized in partnership with World Bank Group. 💳 Dedicated to regional card schemes and retail financial market infrastructures, this year's event took place in Lisbon, and set a new participation record with 160 industry professionals from 54 countries from all continents. 🌎 João Luís Baptista, Chairman of #SIBSMB, took part in the opening session dedicated to current challenges, giving a perspective on European payments, and the progress of European solutions and initiatives. Throughout the two days of exchanging experiences and networking, topics such as digital transformation, global trends in payments, interoperability and inclusion in payments, external factors that are influencing the sector, regulation, instant payments, opportunities and challenges for regional card schemes, mobile payments and the impact of AI on payments were discussed. STET and Société SEPAmail.eu.eu will set-up an interoperable Verification of Payee (VoP) solution compliant with the new European Instant Payment Regulation (IPR) by October 9th 2025. SEPAmail.eu joins its IBAN-Name Check expertise with STET’s processing power on Instant Payments and real time processing, to develop a central Hub and VoP solution as a ‘one stop shop’ which will benefit all of its PSP participants. Together, STET and SEPAmail.eu will take interoperability with other European systems a step further, especially by relying on Swift and leveraging its extensive coverage network across Europe and the rest of the world.
