It was exciting to present our scenario of how to reach an equitable fossil fuel phase to the IEA. Thank you again for this great opportunity! More thoughts: I am looking forward to see how the IEA will redefine its understanding of energy security. For my team and me, this concept does not only refer to a country’s ability to meet energy demand but also to it’s ability to provide sufficient renewable energy transition capacity. Moreover, we think that including physical climate risk into the STEPS scenario is crucial. This would provide a strong financial signal to financial, economic and political decision makers, by showing how climate change will lead to a decline in GDP (also in Europe) over the next years. See this very important article: Kotz, M., Levermann, A., & Wenz, L. (2024). The economic commitment of climate change. Nature, 628(8008), 551–557. https://lnkd.in/ecbbQp_y Guiding logic: The magnitude of economic loss will depend on how fast we reach climate neutrality. Let’s go :) height="750" width="504" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="" title="Embedded post"></iframe>

Honoured to have contributed to the opening session of the Fifth Winner conference in The Hague to share experiences on our cooperation and impacts in our collaborative project with IT Bandung in our project on regional energy transitions in Indonesia generously funded under the #MerianProgram by NWO (Dutch Research Council) and the Indonesian government in a project jointly led by prof Kornelis Blok, TU Delft | Technology, Policy and Management en prof Harkunti Rahayu, Institut Teknologi Bandung. I argued that our scientific collaboration did not only lead to joint cutting edge scientific results for the Net Zero Emission 2060 ambition of Indonesia, but equally important also to joint and mutual capacity building for the energy transition among researchers, students, policymakers, and professionals by our combination of research, stakeholder engagement, training and education. My conclusions were as follows: • Cooperation needs face-to-face and exchange trips • Stakeholder engagement important for impact and understanding complexity • Early career and students/education are key building blocks for the future • Collaboration good basis for follow-up & spin-off • Impact oriented research funding like the Merian program essential, as without the Merian program none of our activities and results would have been achieved. Commenting on research funding in Ireland Iliana Ivanova, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth said “Many Irish universities rank among the 500 best universities worldwide. This makes Ireland one of our strongest innovators in the EU, our innovation score board ranks you 16% higher than the EU average. As we look towards the future we should learn from the success, especially when we consider the challenges that still exist. If we look for instance at Ireland’s research intensity, this is the percentage of investment on research and innovation from GDP, we see it is 1% and as it is, it remains much, much lower than the EU 3% target for 2030.” 🔗 Click below to watch Iliana Ivanova’s full speech from our Future of Ireland ‘New Horizons for Research & Innovation’ event yesterday. 👉 https://lnkd.in/ejcp63ZY Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science DCU Research UCD Research UL Research Trinity College Dublin University of Galway Technological University Dublin Maynooth University UCC Research Science Foundation Ireland

Attended my first EGOS (European Group for Organizational Studies) colloquium in Milan. Presented my work-in-progress with my co-author Sari. A pleasure to be part of this community. The dynamic relationship between organizations and sustainability are at the forefront of interests in academic research. There was a lot to learn as academics from over 90 countries showcased their current work and insights on time, innovation, and sustainability. Interesting discoveries of innovation and how time-related risks in sustainable actions impact organizations globally. There are many complex issues to be solved that require rigorous research and collaboration between academia and industry practioners in the critical transition towards a more sustainable economy. More so, the consequences of making (or not making) actions and their long-term impacts need transparency so that organizations can make informative decisions.
