As energy storage becomes more mainstream around the world, many reasons to enter: (1) largest system measured either in MW or MWh (2) most complex implementations ideally integrated with forms of generation (3) most exhibiting the approach to micro-gridding, closer to loads and not requiring much T&D investment (4) new regulations that independently incentivize energy storage without looking to how (for instance) ancillary services markets were created with baseload benchmarks of yesteryear (5) best recycling service/approach to batteries regionally/globally

BCG’s analysis of total shareholder returns in the energy sector from 2019 through 2023 reveals significant performance differences across and within subsectors. Top TSR leaders excelled in cost management, being 35% more likely to achieve savings through proactive, strategic reduction programs. This approach enhanced earnings, improved performance, and built portfolio resilience, resulting in significantly greater margin expansion compared to peers. For example, top-performing integrated O&G companies used strategic cost reduction programs to drive margin expansion and maintain cost competitiveness through cycles. Trespa Second Life initiative. In a world where raw materials are precious, sustainability is no longer an option, but a necessity. Introducing Trespa Second Life, our goal to give panels a second life. This initiative is central to our mission: not only do we strive to deliver high-quality panels, but we also want to guarantee that our panels continue to contribute to a sustainable and circular economy. Trespa Second Life is all about reusing and extending the life cycle of our products. Every Trespa product has a long lifespan, but the journey doesn't have to stop after the first use. We are actively taking steps to give our products a second life. The raw materials we use, together with our cutting-edge technology, make Trespa panels sustainable and able to store CO2 throughout their lifetime. This second life further extends the period during which the CO2 is stored in the panels. I learned a concept from my engineer friend Joshua Gibbons at RENEGADE CONTENT CREATION that he calls “Derivative Impacts.” It goes like this... “One of the first things you must learn as an engineering student is derivatives. Without understanding that mathematical principle, you cannot move forward in the field. But derivatives are also a component of life, and often times have much more impact than in a mathematical formula. We never know how our actions will impact others, either right then or decades later.” I’m honored and grateful to receive this award. Thank you Utility Analytics Institute (UAI) for the recognition and for including me in a group with my friends Arnie Richardson, David Pope, Glen Sartain, and Raiford Smith. They are Thought Leaders to be sure but more importantly they are Do Leaders. I’m just a Supply Chain guy who poured himself into this unique industry and has been blessed to learn from so many remarkable people all over the world. Some of them work for utilities with job titles that range from Analyst to CEO to BoD member. Some are industry analysts. Some are in the media. Some are former SAS colleagues including Sales, Pre-Sales, Marketing, and country and regional leaders who invited me to listen to and learn from their customers. Some are in companies that partnered with SAS. Some are consultants. Some are in academia and government. Some are in industry associations. I was going to going to tag the people I’ve learned the most from (and have been most influenced by) in this post. But before I knew it, there were 175 names on the list. If you’ve been patient enough to read this far your name is almost certainly on that list. Going back to Joshua and Derivative Impacts, I can point to one derivative that brought me here – a 3 week assignment given to me 15 years ago by former SAS CMO Randy Guard to study whether SAS should develop an offering that leveraged smart meter data. At this week’s JCI Townhall, Kathleen (Katie) McGinty, VP & Chief Sustainability & External Relations Officer, was energized and shared three key ways we’re making AI data centers energy-economized and climate-protective:   𝟭. 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱: A chiller designed for the job uses much less energy – 78% less in the case of YORK YVAM chillers for data centers. 𝟮. 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹: Data Centers run 24/7 but not all days are created equal. The hardest days are energy-intensive, while quiet days require efficiency mode. Use digital solutions like our OpenBlue platform to optimize performance – reducing energy usage by 14% even on the busiest days.  𝟯.
