Sometimes launching a new technology is like paddling a boat to an island past the horizon. You have to leave the comfort of the shore in the faith that it's there - because you did the homework and you know what you're capable of - but before you have proved it. With this White Paper, we have reached the island and proven what we knew to be true. Usually, that boat takes many people to move. 4 years ago, we 'started paddling' with Clearway Energy, who similarly believed in the potential of our sensors’ data to unlock significant, long-term value on solar farms. Specifically, by using the best data to distill a clear signal from the noise of a complex solar farm, you can have a better understanding of what's happening, what it's costing you and what you can recover by taking action. This sensor, the IV DAQ, scans solar panels the way an MRI does a patient, only that it takes a scan every minute. This gives insights into how those panels interact with the rest of the system. What’s more, by doing this all day every day, the platform can glean insights into how the panels are aging ("degrading" in industry lingo) and what that implies for the system performance in terms of energy and revenue. With many solar projects not reaching their P50 forecasts, this is clearly no easy feat. The lifecycle of a solar field is complex and so how they evolve over their 30 year+ lifespan will follow many different paths depending on equipment, geography, climate, etc. This White Paper looks into one such path, (one that is likely impacting hundreds if not thousands of projects), and we’re looking forward to the many other paths still to come. To me, the rapid growth of solar power is truly astonishing. As mentioned in the article, by the 2040s, solar cells could be the largest source of not just electricity⚡, but of all primary energy. That said, also wind power continues to play an important role, and both sources of electricity are driving the green energy transition. My recent discussions at Intersolar, PCIM and the Bavarian Semiconductor Congress confirmed again just how strong this trend is. As a leading player in this market, it is up to us to drive the momentum through continued #innovation.
