NDF offers grants to support regional partnerships (Eastern Neighborhood) Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Civil society actors (including media) from the Eastern Neighborhood Countries (ENC) — Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine can apply. The New Democracy Fund (NDF) launches a new call to support regional partnerships and cross-country/cross-thematic alliances. Civil society actors can apply in partnership with either a minimum of one other civil society actor from at least one other ENC country; a Danish civil society actor; or a minimum of one other civil society actor from the same ENC country. This includes CSOs, social movements, media, academia, trade unions, community-based groups, and cultural, educational and knowledge institutions. Projects should align with one of NDF’s themes: youth, media, culture, labor market, or green and just transition and the cross-cutting priorities: gender, human rights or inclusion. Applicants can request up to DKK400,000 (EUR53,000). The call will also accept applications from ENC organizations without a partner; the maximum amount for that grant is DKK100,000 (EUR13,400). https://lnkd.in/e7Dt-BuR

An estimated 850 million people worldwide lack official documentation, a plight that disproportionately affects women, the youth, rural dwellers, and migrants among others. Lack of documentation not only renders individuals invisible to policy makers and service providers, but also traps them in cycles of modern slavery and re-exploitation. New research from United Nations University Centre for Policy Research (UNU-CPR) and The Freedom Fund examines how access to official documentation is a foundational step for preventing human trafficking and supporting survivors to restore their lives. It highlights interventions that address the root causes of modern slavery by closing documentation gaps, drawing directly from the lived experience of survivors. 🕊️ In Guatemala, it’s estimated there were over 200,000 victims during 36 years of #armedconflict. Since the peace agreements were signed in 1996, victims and human rights organisations have made significant progress. However, there is a lack of political will in the implementation of #reparations – more than 80% of victims have yet to receive reparations over the past 20 years. Last year, we held a conference to discuss the future of reparations, highlighting the key pillars of reparations and victims' needs. President elect Bernardo Arévalo participated in this event. “Reparations programmes should not settle for mere financial compensation but should have a transformative aspect, aspiring to overcome the structural inequality that existed before the conflict and could have caused the violence.” –Ana María Díaz, representative of the OHCHR 📰 What do victims want from transformative reparations? https://bit.ly/48mH0Sr

👏 Meet our new member, Project Expedite Justice! 👏 Project Expedite Justice (PEJ) aims to use all available legal options to seek justice for individuals inadequately protected under the law, who cannot access legal resources, and who are exploited by governments, corporations, or others. PEJ applies a novel, victim-centered approach to addressing mass atrocities. PEJ partners with and train local lawyers and investigators to collect, analyze, and preserve evidence according to international legal standards. Without evidence, there can be no accountability. PEJ has projects in several countries, including Ukraine, Sudan and Ethiopia. Our inclusive team includes people working remotely from Africa, Asia, Europe, South America, and the US. We are deeply committed to increasing opportunities for lawyers and other human rights defenders from the global majority or global south to participate in international rule-of-law-based nonprofit work. “Project Expedite Justice (PEJ) is dedicated to promoting justice, accountability, and human rights on a global scale. Our mission is to facilitate access to justice for victimized and marginalized communities and work towards accountability for atrocities worldwide. We believe in the power of legal mechanisms and international cooperation to address core international crimes – genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes – human rights violations, and systemic injustices. Employing a victim-centered approach and supporting efforts to document and prosecute crimes, PEJ strives to contribute to a more just and equitable world. Our work encompasses direct investigative activities, legal advocacy, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at fostering a culture of accountability and respect for human dignity. Joining the Hague Humanity Hub aligns with our mission by providing a platform to collaborate with like-minded organizations, access resources, share our experience and analyses of situations of collective interest, and engage with stakeholders committed to advancing justice, peace, and accountability.” - Mahum Qazi, Communications Assistant of PEJ 👉 You can learn more about the work of Project Expedite Justice at: https://buff.ly/3xGFdv3 #thehague #denhaag #peaceandjustice #ngos #civilsociety #legalresources #internationallaw #justice #accountability #collectivejustice

🎇 Happy #EuropeDay2024! 💡 Every year on May 9th, we celebrate #EuropeDay, dedicated to commemorating peace and unity in Europe. This day presents an opportunity to reflect upon our achievements and establish future goals for a safer and more prosperous world. #Together, we have made great progress, however there is more work ahead. 🌐 According to the European Commission, approximately 1 in 5 children in Europe will fall victim to sexual violence. With the rapid development of technology and the lack of thorough regulation, perpetrators can commit crimes without physical proximity to the child. Online child sexual abuse does not know borders. 📢 To end sexual violence against children, we must unite our efforts and work in strong collaboration. We need to take a holistic approach and involve all relevant stakeholders internationally to tackle these crimes from every possible angle. 🟢 Let's work #together to #ProtectChildren!
