September 1 marks a significant occasion in the global calendar—International Women in Cyber Day (IWCD). Established to honour the achievements and contributions of women in cybersecurity, this day serves as both a celebration and a call to action for greater inclusion and recognition in a field traditionally dominated by men. The official theme of IWCD 2024 is ‘Cybersecurity in the Digital Age: The Role of Women in Shaping Tomorrow's Security.’ Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) Lynn Dohm Maréva Koulamallah #womenincybersecurity #womenintech #womenempowerment #womenleaders #womeninbusiness #cybersecurity #cyberfit #cyberday #celebrationday #cybersecurityprofessionals #cyberresilience #menews247 #womeninsociety #digitalinnovation #cybersecurityindustry #calltoaction #internationalday #digitalage #internationalwomen #globalwomen

It took me a while to find the source report (its here: https://lnkd.in/gX7DD8_d). To me, the most interesting finding is the following: “women, much more so than men, struggle with lack of Respect from Leadership, Direct Manager and Peers.” Let’s not confuse respect with accountability: accountability and outcomes must be met, so that respect and attribution can be demonstrated. But if we do this, I have hopes that we (whoever you are, dear reader) can help change drive positive change here. By showing respect and modeling respectful behaviour we can drive inclusion and build future cybersecurity leaders.

This statistic won't come as a surprise to any women who has worked in tech: A new report by Women in CyberSecurity finds that women reported 350% more exclusion in recognition and 250% more in respect than their male counterparts. Women experience an uphill battle in tech, especially when it comes to leadership and advancement. Even small differences in recognition and respect earlier in our careers can have devastating effects on our long-term professional opportunities. #Cybersecurity #WomenInCybersecurity #WomenInSTEM

I've been championing the cause of increasing women's participation in cybersecurity and have been actively mentoring women at the Mass Cyber Center to inspire more to enter the field. However, despite these efforts, it’s discouraging to witness so many talented women leaving the profession, as highlighted in this CSO article. Attending IT conferences and round tables with CSOs and CISOs, where I'm often the only woman at the table, underscores the urgency of addressing this issue. We need to do more to create an inclusive environment that not only attracts but retains women in cybersecurity. Let's continue to push for change and make a difference together. #InternationalWomenInCyberDay #WomenInTech #Cybersecurity #DiversityAndInclusion #MassCyberCenter

Happy International Women’s Day! Thank you to all of the amazing women that work in cyber. I’d like to acknowledge in particular Jan-Marie Davies CEO and Co-Founder of Identifly; I’m extremely proud of JM and her leadership and dedication to promoting inclusion. Today she is featured within InDaily speaking about Identifly and building diversity within our team. “I always invest in aptitude: it is gender agnostic, it is culturally agnostic, it is about believing in a person and elevating them, both men and women,” Jan-Marie said. I’m also incredibly grateful for the support from our many sponsors and partners including Australian Information Security Association (AISA) AWSN - Australian Women in Security Network. #IWD2024 #inspireinclusion #IWD #womenincyber #FlyWithIdentifly
