I choose to live in Europe for a long list of reasons, many of which have to do with appreciation for the direction set by the European Commission over the last years and the determination with which commitment to change has been pursued - with setbacks and with contradictions, but nonetheless ambitious, in many instances visionary, and with the courage to try and to learn. Together with my fellow co-founders of the #SystemsTransformationHub, we believe in a future where human wellbeing takes centre-stage, supported by an economy that values more than GDP-measured growth. In the near and long term future, Europe must become more resilient to polycrisis: conflict and international tensions, cost of living and inflation, climate change, and biodiversity loss. In the second of our series of policy briefs, we lay out a vision for Europe and demonstrate how thinking in terms of 'provisioning systems' - focussed on maximising the economy to meet human needs while respecting planetary boundaries - offers #EU policymakers a powerful and effective fit-for-purpose strategy. We present 5 policy recommendations to Ursula von der Leyen's new Commission to help Europe achieve the priorities of the 2024-2029 EU Strategic Agenda. The new European Commission has just taken office. It has an enormous task but also a tremendous opportunity to help shift the continent towards a greener, more secure, and competitive EU economy. Together with my fellow co-founders of the Systems Transformation Hub, we believe in a future where human wellbeing takes center-stage, supported by an economy that values more than just GDP growth. In the near and long term future, Europe must become more resilient to the poly-crisis of conflict and international tensions, cost of living and inflation, climate change, and biodiversity loss, with greening industrial competitiveness playing a key role. In the second in our series of policy briefs, we lay out a vision for a Europe and demonstrate how the provisioning of a systems framework - focused on maximising the economy to meet human needs while respecting planetary boundaries - offers EU policymakers a powerful and effective fit-for-purpose strategy. In light of the five policy recommendations outlined in this report, I'll supplement this report with a conversation involving Kris De Decker, one of my favorite European sustainability thinkers: https://lnkd.in/g9Frw5Hu We have the solutions available to us to craft a sustainable society, if only we employ them.

Our growth agenda must be green. In today's edition of City AM, Sophie Miremadi, our Global Policy Lead and VP Government Affairs, and fellow UK Corporate Leaders Groups co-chair Alex O'dell, have shared how bold thinking and deeper collaboration, and a clear regulatory framework, is good for both business and the environment. The STH recommendations for the new #EUCommission are out! Among them building a cohesive #land-use strategy that leverages synergies between various human needs such as food, housing, and energy, and protecting biodiversity. Single sector solutions are no-longer sufficient as pressures on land increases on all sides, including from #climatechange. Read more ⬇️ Credit to: Milan Petit Daniela Russi and Edward Davey
