The "What To Expect in Aquaculture in 2024" report, published by Rabobank, offers an optimistic outlook for the future of our sector. Global fish production is likely to grow steadily, with salmon leading the way. Sustainability is gaining more and more prominence, with the adoption of practices such as water recirculation and the use of alternative ingredients in food. The study indicates great potential for aquaculture to provide healthy, sustainable protein for the global population - just as Huon has been doing. #Huon #Aquaculture #Sustainability #Food

Are you familiar with the terms ‘aquaculture’ and ‘farm-raised'? In Norwegian Seafood Council’s Oceans of Change Report, research from FMI- The Food Industry Association reveals 71% of consumers are unsure about the term "aquaculture," and 51% are unclear about the meaning of "farm-raised". Plus, many consumers still lack confidence in choosing responsibly sourced seafood. This needs to change! Through GSI we strive to provide science-backed information on what salmon aquaculture entails and what the future of sustainable aquaculture can look like. When it comes to choosing responsibly sourced seafood, looking for labels from certification programs like Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) can provide independent assurance that products have been raised to the highest standards. 🐟 Seabream in Aquaculture: Unlocking Hidden Potential 🐟 Gilthead sea bream is a key species in European aquaculture, playing a vital role in both Mediterranean cuisine and the broader seafood industry. While seabream is a culinary favorite, its impact extends far beyond the plate, contributing significantly to the entire aquaculture sector. 🥗 🐟 However, despite its importance, much of the sea bream's side-streams—such as scales, gills, and bones—are still underutilized or discarded. These by-products hold immense potential for higher-value applications, including the production of collagen, gelatin, and bioactive compounds. #FOODIMAR is focused on turning this untapped potential into reality. With three innovative pilots, one of which targets seabream aquaculture side-streams in 🇹🇷 Türkiye, we're partnering with Tetis Biotechnology to explore ways to transform these by-products into high-value opportunities. Stay connected to discover how we’re pioneering innovative, cost-effective, and climate-friendly methods to produce premium marine collagen, gelatin, and glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) from #fisheries and #aquaculture side-streams, meeting the needs of both industry and consumers. 🌊🌱 Untapped resources from the sea 🌱🌊 #SeafoodSideStream #SustainableAquaculture #BlueFood #SBEP #BlueEconomyEU María José de la Peña SUBMARINER Network for Blue Growth EEIG Emre Yemisken

We've recently published our Seafood Forecast through the year 2050, a report that aims to untangle the complexities in seafood value chains and provide an objective view of developments to mid-century. This global forecast of the seafood industry covers both marine capture fisheries and marine aquaculture, including value chain components such as feed and global seafood trade. • What will be the role of seafood in global food demand? • How will marine aquaculture develop to meet seafood demand? • What will drive change in seafood trade patterns to 2050? • What will be the main sources of feed for marine aquaculture? If you're at #COP28 on 8 December, please join DNV's Bente Pretlove and Geir Fuglerud at tomorrow's launch event "Blue foods for sustainable food systems" in the Norway Pavilion at 09:00. We'll be exploring how to make blue foods available and accessible to low-income regions while encouraging more seafood consumption in high-income regions and ensuring traceability along the supply chain. With the global catch of cod being historically low, geopolitical risks and unpredictable events, alternative species versus other proteins is vital, so we do not lose market share. Australis Aquaculture is a global leader in tropical marine aquaculture and is the world’s largest vertically integrated producer and marketer of premium, sustainable Barramundi. Maris Seafoods Ltd are pleased to collaborate and market this nutritional powerhouse in the UK & EU, where awareness is growing rapidly, especially with younger consumers. Why – because Australis Barramundi is low in calories, high in omega-3s, high in protein, mercury free and antibiotic free. They operate State-of-the-Art Offshore Farming Technologies, where the fish are saltwater farmed, then harvested using the humane ikejime method. Australis are the worlds first in category Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), Fair Trade USA and Monterey Bay Aquarium Best Choice, and are positioned to help operators and retailers attract frequent seafood consumers. Overall, global Barramundi aquaculture has shown remarkable expansion, increasing from 21,000 metric tons in 2000 to 168,000 metric tons in 2023, representing an impressive 800 percent growth over this period — making barramundi the fastest growing species over the past decade. To quote Jacques Cousteau – “We must plant the seas and herd its animals using the sea as farmers instead of hunters. That is what civilization is all about – farming replacing hunting.” #FairTrade #SustainableSeafood #AustralisBarramundi #ExclusivelyAtMaris #BRC #GFSI #BAP4* #Oceanwise #BSCI

📢 Calling All Seafood Enthusiasts! 📢 We invite you to read an important update from Stronger America Through Seafood (SATS) regarding the future of aquaculture in the United States. 🔗 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/e-Vr9sQx 📄 Key Highlights: ◽ SATS has sent a letter to the House Natural Resources Committee, signed by over 50 leaders from the seafood industry, environmental organizations, chefs, and academia. ◽ The letter advocates for expanding aquaculture in US federal waters to boost the production of sustainable, healthful, and affordable seafood. ◽ This initiative aims to enhance food security, support wild fisheries, and create quality jobs while maintaining environmental sustainability. 🌊 Why This Matters: With nearly 80% of seafood consumed in the US being imported, expanding domestic aquaculture is essential for securing our nation’s food supply and resilience. Offshore aquaculture holds the potential to improve food security, nutrition, coastal resilience, and job creation. 🚀 Legislation in Focus: The letter supports three key offshore aquaculture bills awaiting Committee action: ◽ HR 4013: The Advancing the Quality and Understanding of American Aquaculture (AQUAA) Act ◽ HR 5944: The Science-based Equitable Aquaculture Food (SEAfood) Act ◽ HR 1461: The Coastal Seaweed Farm Act #Aquaculture #SustainableSeafood #FoodSecurity #StrongerAmerica #EnvironmentalSustainability #SeafoodIndustry #USAquaculture #OffshoreFarming #Legislation #SupportAquaculture
