#SUAVE at the Salon du Végétal 2024: Innovation at the service of crop production 🌱 From SUAVE, the project leader Claudia DE OLIVEIRA RAMOS from VEGEPOLYS VALLEY International and Zsolt Keresztúri from Innoskart Digital Cluster also attended the three-day Salon du Végétal in Angers last week, one of the most important meetings of the European plant production and horticulture sector. As part of the event, the Plant Intercluster (PIC) meeting was also organised.🌍 #PIC is a network of European clusters focusing on all the different areas of plant production, aiming to find innovative solutions for plant cultivation and to promote sustainability through the latest technological developments. 💡 Among the topics discussed at the meeting:  - digital solutions - promoting international connections - and cooperation with other countries (Africa and Latin America). Just back from an inspiring week in #Argentina 🇦🇷, where I explored the vibrant innovation ecosystems of Buenos Aires & Rosario. These cities are buzzing with startups & investors using #biotechnology to shape the future of agriculture & food. 🌱✨ (🔜 Stay tuned for a #WTF: Where's The Farmer™ episode showcasing what we learned!) It was a privilege to speak at Outsource 2LAC, an Inter-American Development Bank event focused on growth and development in #LATAM & the Caribbean. Despite losing my voice from all the travel (yes, it happens!), I took the stage to share a bold vision: the era of “blockbuster,” one-size-fits-all #agtech solutions is over. 🛑 Decentralized, localized R&D is the future, leveraging the unique strengths of regions like Latin America to leapfrog outdated models & rethink how we innovate & scale. For example, just ten years ago, solutions like #biological crop protection faced widespread skepticism. Today, data proves their efficacy & much of the innovation is being driven by local players. Pamela Chavez Crooker (a fellow speaker) talked about the work of her (women-led) biotech company DomoLif in Chile 🇨🇱, which uses shell byproducts from aquaculture to make efficacious soil amendments! 🦪 My database includes thousands of amazing solutions like this developed by innovators across LAC countries like #Mexico, #Colombia & #Barbados - & other regions around the world. This excites me most: underventured but high growth markets like LATAM have the opportunity to lead, not follow. I call this the *leapfrog opportunity* 🐸 —the chance to skip incremental steps and go straight to advanced, regionally tailored solutions. Imagine empowering farmers and diversifying economies using local waste streams and biomass perfectly suited for local soils & conditions! The signs of progress are clear: Mirella L. from BASF, a fellow speaker, highlighted how her company is opening its doors to local startups, recognizing the value of grassroots ingenuity. Partners like SF500, GRIDX, and Parque de Innovación are stepping up to power Argentina’s local ecosystems & investments. My new company GIGA (coming soon! 👀) is focused on making investment & innovation work *all over the world* so that we can leapfrog food systems forward. The time to act is NOW—we no longer have the luxury to play small.
