📈 Congratulations to West of Scotland Housing Association (WSHA) on publishing its second Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) Report—its first aligned with the Sustainability Reporting Standard for Social Housing (SRS v2.0)! WSHA supports over 4,300 homes across Scotland, with a vision to "go further to provide housing you call home." Their ESG report highlights progress, including a 28% reduction in direct operational emissions compared to its 2019/20 baseline and a newly established Net Zero target for 2045. Chief Executive, Brian Gannon, says: "This report reflects our ongoing commitment to embedding sustainability at the heart of what we do—reducing environmental impact, improving health and well-being, and fostering strong communities. By reporting against the SRS, we ensure transparency and accountability in achieving our goals." 📊 South Lakes Housing (SLH) is the latest Adopter to release its 2023-24 ESG Report in line with the Sustainability Reporting Standard for Social Housing (SRS) framework. SLH is an independent, not-for-profit housing association with over 3,000 homes and is the largest provider of affordable rented housing in South Lakeland, Cumbria. In the introduction to its ESG report, SLH says: "In 2023 SLH adopted and reported against ‘The Sustainability Reporting Standard for Social Housing’ (SRS) and this is our 2nd report against the updated version 2 of the SRS. We feel that it is integral to tell our story, and that of the social housing sector, through a consistent and comparable reporting framework. "Our business strategy objectives around Growing, Greening and Transforming (GGT) are so closely aligned with the Standard that they go hand in glove, and where GGT meets ESG." We're delighted that the team at SLH advocate for consistent and transparent reporting and strategic decision making through the SRS and we're proud to have their continued support. 📊 Coastal Housing Group recently published its first ESG Report against the Sustainability Reporting Standard for Social Housing (SRS). The housing association provides 6,000 homes in Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Carmarthenshire, and Bridgend. It has been providing homes at low rents to local people in and around the Swansea area since the 1970s. Introducing Coastal's ESG Report 2023, Group Chief Executive, Debbie Green, says: "By joining the Sustainability Reporting Standard (SRS), we are reaffirming the commitment we made last year [to reducing our carbon footprint and becoming a more sustainable organisation, by publishing our first ever sustainability strategy]. "Because the SRS is a consistent, industrywide reporting method, committing to it ensures our reporting will be comprehensive and transparent. It also means that our performance can be compared to that of our peers." We are delighted that the team at Coastal Housing Group chose underpin its commitment to sustainability by adopting and implementing the SRS. The storm around Australia's "housing crisis" shows no signs of abating soon. Just three issues in the media this week. (links in comments). 1. Strata contracts for owners corporations are unconscionable, and in particular the ones encouraged by the Strata Community Association are being called out. (source: Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)) 2. "Developers aren't building apartments" despite home building picking up to $120.2 billion over the next two years (Source: The Australian Financial Review 3. Federal Minister for Housing is completely out of touch with the cost of housing (at least in Sydney). (Source: News Corp) It's time to change the conversation.
