Europe’s Green Job Growth Slows as Solar Workforce Expansion Stalls in 2024 The growth of green jobs in Europe is slowing, with the solar sector predicting only a 0.4% increase in workforce in 2024. After a 27% rise in 2023, the sector is expected to grow modestly, from 826,000 workers in 2023 to 830,000 in 2024, due to slower solar deployment and difficulties in manufacturing. The workforce stagnation is attributed to reduced solar installations as the energy crisis subsides and system inflexibilities hinder expansion. Additionally, European solar manufacturing has faced significant challenges over the past year, leading to production slowdowns and job cuts. Walburga Hemetsberger, CEO of SolarPower Europe, said, “Solar can […] Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/dnUQ5cBN #solarenergy #alternativeenergy #solarpv #pvsolar #photovoltaic #cleanenergy #cleantech #climatechange #renewableenergy #renewableenergy #solarenergy #solarpowereurope

It’s no secret that the renewable energy workforce is facing skill shortages. The Clean Energy Council has shared that the wind and solar industries have the highest demand for workers right now, with hydrogen and battery storage following closely. This demand is expected to increase rapidly over the decade (according to the Clean Energy Australia Report 2023). Paired with the fact that the industry is still new, this can pose challenges for hiring managers and recruitment consultants to find workers who possess the required specialised skills. So we’ve gathered innovative strategies to attract top talent in the competitive renewables industry: ⭕ Connect with passive candidates on LinkedIn, with the aim to engage their interest when they may not be directly searching for a new job. ⭕ Work with the client to develop stronger branding propositions for employees - that make candidates want to work with them. For example, promoting their innovation by committing to sustainability, flexible working and state-of-the-art technology. ⭕ Utilise diversity and inclusion (D&I) hiring tactics, which widens the talent pool and makes the client more attractive to the candidate. ⭕ Promote employee training programs to candidates, offering opportunities for learning and growth. This can assist with the skills shortages and reduce friction in an industry transition. ⭕ Negotiate between the client and candidates to ensure the compensation and benefits are competitive enough to attract top talent. This goes beyond salaries, and is more frequently including flexible working options and health and wellness initiatives. #recruitmentstrategies #renewablerecruitment #skillshortage #connectingforbetter

🌟 Attracting and Retaining Top Engineering Talent in Renewable Energy 🌟 In today's competitive market, renewable energy firms face the challenge of attracting and retaining top engineering talent. With the industry growing rapidly, it's crucial to implement effective strategies to stand out. Here are some insights from my experience in the field. Firstly, offering competitive compensation packages is essential, but it's not just about the salary. Benefits like flexible working hours, remote work options, and continuous learning opportunities can make a significant difference. Engineers value environments where they can grow and innovate, so providing access to the latest technologies and training programs is a must. 🌱 Secondly, fostering a strong company culture centered around sustainability and impact can be a powerful draw. Engineers in the renewable energy sector are often driven by a desire to make a difference. Highlighting your company's commitment to environmental stewardship and showcasing successful projects can resonate deeply with potential hires. 🌍 Lastly, don't underestimate the power of recognition and career advancement. Regularly acknowledging achievements and providing clear pathways for career progression can boost morale and loyalty. Mentorship programs and leadership development initiatives can also help retain top talent by showing that you invest in their long-term success. As the drive for sustainable energy solutions grows, so does the demand for skilled professionals in green sectors. Roles like solar installer, retrofit coordinator, renewable heat specialist, and energy efficiency expert are all in high demand. Yet, many recruiters and job seekers remain focused on traditional industries, potentially missing out on one of the most promising areas for growth and job creation. 🌱 At SERT, we see this skills gap as an opportunity rather than a barrier. Amid the economic uncertainty, we're excited about the positive impact we can have by refocusing towards the green sector. While some markets may be struggling, the green jobs sector is on the rise, driven by essential roles like electricians, insulation specialists, and renewable technology experts. 📈 In response to this demand, SERT is actively increasing our headcount in both training and recruitment. Our commitment to bridging the skills gap means we're continually investing in upskilling programmes, certifications, and tailored training pathways to meet the unique needs of the green industries. We're thrilled to announce that we're also in discussions to open our next training facility, which may see us expanding back to the North! This strategic move aims to make our training solutions more accessible, ensuring they're available wherever they're needed most. The importance of green jobs goes beyond employment figures 🌿.
