⚙️The June 2024 #UNClimateConference in Bonn highlighted critical outcomes and ongoing disputes centered around global climate finance and future goals. 🧩Developed and developing nations clashed over funding responsibilities, particularly concerning trillions needed for initiatives, delaying progress on #ClimateAdaptation and prior agreements. ❗A major unresolved issue is the post-2025 global #ClimateFinance goal, slated for agreement at #COP29 in Baku, aiming to replace the unmet $100 billion annual target set for 2020. 🔎Discussions also addressed #GlobalEmissions reduction and resilience, culminating in a streamlined 45-page "input paper" post-intense negotiations. Despite challenges, agreement was reached on enhancing finance accessibility and transparency frameworks under the #ParisAgreement. 📍The conference marked a milestone with the launch of a new fund at #COP28 to aid countries grappling with climate-related loss and damage, a significant win for vulnerable nations. Looking ahead to COP29, unresolved issues like finance metrics and recipient selection demand decisive action amid potential disruptions from governmental changes in key donor countries. 🤝We believe it's imperative for the entire world to unite in the collective fight against #ClimateChange, pooling resources internationally to ensure effective #ClimateAction. Let's remain committed as we work together to shape a #sustainable climate future! Vikram Vishal ARNAB DUTTA Piyali Majumder Koyel Das

A week today, Monday 23 September, a coalition led by the Government of Brazil will launch a permanent Global Citizens’ Assembly for People and Planet for #COP30 and beyond. The goal is to get 10m people directly engaged in the assembly by 2030; and as many as we can in COP30. Not just to push politicians; but to tell the story of the people across the world rising to the crisis. Arguing because they care, disagreeing well and building solidarity as an antidote to polarization. It's been a great privilege to play a role in incubating this new institution. If you're in NYC or would like to join the livestream we'd love to see you. The launch isn't taking place in a conference room but at the NY Society for Ethical Culture, the beating heart of so much civic activism and democratic renewal for over a century. Supported by the Government of Brazil, Climate Emergency Collaboration Group Wellcome Trust and Avaaz, this event will explore how we can work together to ensure that #COP30 kickstarts a new era where people lead #globalgovernance. Confirmed speakers include: ◾ Ana Toni (Secretary for Climate Change, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Brazil) ◾ Ralph Regenvanu (Special Envoy for Climate Change and Environment, Vanuatu) ◾ Laurence Tubiana (CEO, European Climate Foundation, and key architect of the #ParisAgreement) ◾ Abdallah Mokssit (Secretary, IPCC) ◾ Sandrine Dixson-Declève (Co-President, The Club of Rome & Chair Earth4All) ◾ Tolullah Oni (Clinical Professor, University of Cambridge) ◾ Rachael Orr (CEO, Climate Outreach) 📝 Read more about the event and the Assembly: https://lnkd.in/e6s-Z-xp 🗓 Register to join us in New York: https://lnkd.in/ezuejCJJ 🖋 Sign up the Coalition mailing list to find out how to tune in online for the live-streamed event 🖥 : https://lnkd.in/eUXhBKWr #SummitoftheFuture #Climateweek #OurCommonAgenda #2024UNCSC

The “White Paper” is a strategic document developed by the Business Council at the PRECOP 29 Climate Conference (a body building on the actions undertaken by the Business Council at WUF11). It contains key conclusions and recommendations related to the actions that must be taken to effectively achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The recommendations presented to the Government of the Republic of Poland were shared during the UN Climate Change Conference COP 29 in Azerbaijan, held from November 11-22, 2024. This is the world's largest forum aimed at developing a joint policy to combat climate change, attended by representatives from nearly 200 countries, with over 65,000 participants. Dr. Eng. Tomasz Jan Wilczyński, President of BFirst.Tech, made a significant contribution to the development of the document, sharing his expert knowledge in areas such as monitoring and diagnostics of industrial infrastructure, applications of Big Data, artificial intelligence algorithms, machine learning in industry, ESG non-financial reporting, and noise pollution reduction. Some positive news out of #COP28? For the first time in history, there is clear language on phasing out #FossilFuels. This seems like a step in the right direction but might not be enough. Nations and businesses need to #WalkTheTalk - #commit, set ambitious #goals, and #finance the transition. In the words of the representative of the Island Nations: "We have made an incremental advancement over business as usual, when what we really need is an exponential step change in our actions." And another quote that sums it up well: Clover H: “Our mistake would be accepting that this is the best we can do… …History shows us that true leadership will not come from those who benefit from the system remaining unchanged. True leadership will come from those who have everything to lose; but also, everything to gain.” #ClimateChange #ClimateAction
