When I was about to relocate to Lagos, I sent my CV to two of my sisters who base here informing them of my plan and that I would appreciate it if they could assist me with job opportunities anytime they come across any. Of course they promised to assist me. However, when I moved over, I did not just relax saying that I have people who will contact me if they have a job for me. I went deep into job hunting and within a very short timeframe, I got a job. Right now, I am on my second job in Lagos. My first job, I did one year and I'm just a few months old in my second job here in Lagos. These two jobs, I got them without anybody's assistance. I saw the job openings, I applied for them, I went for the interviews, I passed them and I got the jobs without any form of connection. As much as you can ask people to assist you if they have job opportunities, you do not have to wait for anybody before you get a job. If you think that without connection you can't get a job then you have a self-confidence challenge. To deal with it ASAP and land your dream job without any form of connection, 📌Come clear with the kind of jobs you can do based on your training, skills and experience. 📌 Improve yourself. If you don't have a job at the moment one of the best things to do is to take to learning. There are free learning resources online. Take advantage of the ones that fit your learning needs. Learning birth knowledge and knowledge breeds confidence. 📌Join job groups. You'll get notifications on job opportunities that you can apply for. I got my two jobs from a job group I belong to. You too can. If you need the link to join this job group, let me know below. 📌Come for a dialogue. Let me engage you so that we can unravel what your exact challenges are and proffer bespoke solutions for you. Interested in this? Use the bitly link in my profile to book a free session, ask for the link in the comment section or in my DM. Note: Your thought pattern shapes your reality. Mind what you process up there and how you do it. If you forget everything I said in this post, don't forget I said you can get a job without anyone's connection. You can!!! #phenomenalwoman

Yes, I once imagined myself living large in Ibadan, with a great job (even though there was no concrete offer). But life rarely follows a straight line, does it? Thank you to those who followed along in the last post. And to those just joining in, Welcome aboard! You might want to check my previous post for some context. Now, let’s rewind a bit. Did I mention I had worked for a Digital communication and Brand Consulting firm in Lagos right after leaving my Human Resource job. Yes, I had applied for the position of a development communication intern (zero experience), I went through the interview process and I was offered the job. This in its case was a Hybrid role which means finally, I get to dress up and say ‘I’m going to the office’. Don’t be confused, I had always been a remote worker. So it feels good to finally be able to leave the house and go to work. But as they say, all good things must come to an end. I left the job within 2 months (I will be sharing my experience soon). Let’s come back to me daydreaming about my life in Ibadan when I got another offer as an Executive Assistant to the CEO of a prominent company in Lagos. My well thought-out plans were not about to be disposed, but out of curiosity, I decided to accept the interview invite. I sailed through the initial stages and landed a face-to-face session with the CEO I will be working with. I wouldn’t say I had no skills, my previous roles has helped me in building some administrative skills and I had been opportune to manage people and also mastering the art of communication. The result? I got the job!! It was a full-time, on-site position, a whole new adventure. Fast forward almost 2 years into the job, I was moved to the position of the Assistant Head of Customer Relations/Communications Manager of the same company. This unexpected path has been a whirlwind of learning and growth. Stay connected as I continue to share the highs and lows of my professional journey. I would love to hear some of your experience, kindly share them in the comment section. #wednesdaypost #Linkedin #careerdevelopment #growth #professionaljourney

Sometimes, I wonder why applicants apply for jobs for which they lack the required competence or that are located far from their current residence. For example, how can a graduate intern apply for the role of a procurement manager? Or how can someone living in Calabar apply for a job based in Lagos without having any relatives or a place to stay there? In these cases, I often reach out to confirm their current location, just to ensure their address aligns with where they are actually living. Sometimes, it matches, but other times it doesn't. When I ask them about it, some respond by saying they didn’t realize the job was in Lagos, despite the job advert clearly stating so. Others admit they were simply "taking a chance." But to what end? This behavior suggests a lack of focus or direction, which is concerning for individuals who claim to be meticulous. Dear applicants, please refrain from applying for jobs outside your area of expertise or geographical location unless you are genuinely considering relocation. Understanding your strengths and applying for jobs that align with them is crucial. It shows that you have a clear career path. Thank you for submitting the right applications henceforth. Enjoy your weekend!

🌍 🌉 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗮𝗽: 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 & 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻🌍 Recently, while recruiting for a senior role, I came across an important realization: educating candidates about both the company and the location is crucial for success. I was working on a senior role for a Kenya location, and I noticed many talented candidates were hesitant, not because of the role itself, but due to misconceptions about the location. It made me realize how vital it is to go beyond the job description. Here’s why these matters: 1. 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝘁 & 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Every company and location have its own unique culture and way of working. Educating candidates on both ensures they align not just with the company’s values, but also with the community they’ll be joining. Whether it's understanding local customs or knowing the work-life balance, this knowledge sets candidates up for success. 2.𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁: Different locations come with different market dynamics. In many regions, especially emerging markets, candidates may not be aware of the rapid growth and opportunities available. Educating them about the local business environment—whether it's a booming tech scene or an expanding food sector—opens their eyes to the potential they could tap into. 3.𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Misconceptions about certain locations can cloud a candidate’s judgment. Clear, accurate information about the region helps them see beyond stereotypes and focus on the real opportunities that await. 4. 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲: When candidates are moving to a new city or country, they have questions. What’s the cost of living? How’s the lifestyle? What are the schooling or housing options? Educating them on these details ensures they feel prepared and excited about the move. In my experience, once candidates are fully informed about both the company and the location, their enthusiasm grows. This gives them a complete picture, so they can make confident decisions and thrive in their new roles. Let’s invest in educating our candidates and bridge the knowledge gap—because an informed candidate is a confident one. 🌱 #Recruitment #CandidateExperience #GlobalHiring #TalentAcquisition #WorkCulture #Relocation Jane Taylor Bhakti Thakar Deepmala Gajjar 🌍Kena Shah (Chaniary) 🌍 Seema Shah 🎯 Megha Sharma John Saxena Nikunj Shah 🤝
