Science subject leaders and sustainability enthusiasts looking ahead to the new year – we have a date for your diaries! Following the success of our recent Leadership for sustainability in science webinar, during which we presented our curriculum framework for science and discussed how we are supporting schools to deliver the science curriculum through the lens of sustainability, our next event takes place on 6th February 2025 at 4pm. We were delighted to see so many teachers and educators in our first session, and as a result we have many schools involved in piloting our science lesson plans. Their feedback is incredibly valuable in helping shape the resources we have in development. If you are keen to be part of our pilot and to work with us to embed sustainability in your school, do join us for this follow-up event in February. It's open to all teachers and educators who would like to learn more about our work and how to be part of taking it forwards. Here's a glimpse at the agenda: •A brief overview of the recent work of The Harmony Project •Discussion of the connection between our resources and the development of Climate Action Plans •Insights into practical starting points that will support the inclusion of sustainability within the primary science curriculum and beyond •Next steps to join our free spring lesson plan resources pilot The link to sign up can be found below.

🌊 Should climate scepticism be taught in business schools? Some experts argue that while academic freedom is essential, it does not extend to baseless claims. In the current 'post-truth' era, where misinformation spreads easily, it is crucial to educate future business leaders to assess and debunk falsehoods critically. Thus, business schools should address climate scepticism not as a credible scientific stance but as a study of disinformation, equipping graduates to navigate and counteract these types of fallacies. In the latest issue of Global Focus Magazine, Frank Figge, Professor of Sustainability at ESCP Business School, and Andrea Thorpe, Associate Professor at Católica Porto Business School, explain how business schools can effectively integrate lessons on identifying and countering misinformation into their curricula to better prepare future leaders. 📘 Learn more: ╰┈➤bit.ly/GF-Climate Matthew Wood #EFMDGlobalFocus #climatechange #businessschools

I am thrilled to be holding the hard copy of “The Bloomsbury Handbook of CONTEXT AND TRANSFORMATIVE LEADERSHIP IN HIGHER EDUCATION” in which our chapter “Deepening Climate Change Leadership in a Faculty of Education: Local Strategies in a Global Context” has been published. This chapter, written in collaboration with Hilary Inwood and Jennifer Sumner from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto, explores ideas for supporting leadership in environmental and sustainability education which is becoming increasingly important given the impacts of climate change. We discuss how climate change leadership requires a coordinated and systematic approach because when confronting the climate crisis leaders must be aware of multiple contextual factors that impact a community. As we argue, higher education institutions can contribute in crucial ways to addressing climate change and encouraging societal transformation through sustainability leadership and education which deserves greater attention and ongoing support. This entire handbook series – a total of four volumes – has been a long time in the making but well worth the wait. There are contributions from all over the world on issues along with examples to inspire new directions for educational leadership necessary for navigating times of crisis and change. #highereducation #leadership #sustainabilityeducation #climateaction #transformativeleadership

# Reflecting on Responsible Leadership at Exeter As I dive into the Leadership module at The Exeter MBA, I'm revisiting a question that has long fascinated me—one posed by Alexander Hamilton in Federalist 1: Are we capable of building governments through reflection and choice, or are we doomed to fall to accident and force? This centuries-old query feels more relevant than ever, especially after completing the TEXL leadership survey in class. It's made me reflect deeply on the nature of responsible leadership in our rapidly advancing world. As we face global challenges like climate change, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology, the quality of our leadership will determine whether we: - Exacerbate existing inequalities or democratise access to knowledge and opportunity - Navigate towards a sustainable future or continue on a path of environmental degradation - Harness technological advancements for the benefit of all or allow them to widen societal divides My University of Exeter Business School MBA experience is reinforcing that responsible leadership isn't just a nice-to-have—it's critical for: 1. Saving our planet 2. Ensuring the survival and thriving of our species 3. Building a future of sustainability, justice, equality, opportunity, and shared prosperity The TEXL survey and our class discussions have underscored the intricate nature of leadership in today's world. They've also highlighted the pivotal role of continuous self-reflection and growth in our journey to develop responsible leadership skills. As I progress on my MBA journey, my dedication to refining the skills and mindset required for responsible leadership is unwavering. I am more committed than ever to becoming a leader who can positively influence this pivotal historical moment. #ResponsibleLeadership #GlobalChallenges #TechForGood #SustainableFuture #LeadershipDevelopment #ExeterMBA #TexlSurvey

#ISpyClimateInfluence Huge kudos to UC San Diego for stepping UP to make sure students are baseline educated on #climatechange #ClimateInfluence is the understanding that you - an individual or company/org - with some sort of niche influence platform - can strategically use your voice and get more public about your connection with deep climate values. Universities can reflect that they GET that climate education is an absolute MUST for tomorrow's leaders. Individual CEOs, founder and investors, for example, can reflect that their gung-ho-ness about #climateaction and what may lie behind their #sustainability policies and decisions comes from a PERSONAL values shift that really drives them. THAT is the gold for building more stakeholder trust, telling more effective stories and changing the perceived social norm of leadership very quickly. That's my work. When you are ready for a climate influence awareness jumpstart - schedule a one-off advisory session with me and be blown away by how quickly you'll feel empowered to leverage YOUR climate influence.
